Said before but the meeting Ange had with * 1 and * 2 was the end for him.

Prior to this he was talking about the future and making reference to how long he would be at the club.

After that meeting we heard about don't get attached to players etc.. he was obviously told at the meeting that for every million we raked in on a deal he was getting 3p to reinvest and that was enough for him to want elsewhere.

I honestly think * 1 and * 2 gambled that no big clubs would come in for him.

Another gamble that back fired on us.

    100% my take as well.

That meeting we got leaked rumours of £30m transfer kitty, barrowfield to be improved and analysis rooms and whatever else.
Weeks later the Spurs links was ramping up, his agent was pressing his name forward more and more, specially as the likes of Enrique distanced himself.

For me, he saw that meeting for what it was - a pack of lies and empty promises. Saw right through Lawwell and his *.
Keep in mind, he had to knock heads to get things going at the club in his first season, shake off the old cobwebs that Lawwell had left behind. He will have smelt the return straight away and knew what was coming ahead.

Absolutely do not blame him for then telling his agent to go out and see what jobs are available. Just so happened the Spurs job cropped up and his name got pushed higher and higher.
Once they came asking, it's always gonna be a hard job to say no to from the position he was in here.
Had it been a WBA of an Everton level job, I could see him saying no. But a top 6 club, never knocking that back knowing the Celtic job was about to be heavily restricted.

Just can’t get enough Depeche mode
Look at the dates, Arne Slot rejected Tottenham on the 25th of May and then Ange joins them on the 6th of June. That is a window of 12 days which imo is enough for them to sound him out and negotiate with us/him. I don’t think he left due to our board, he left due to his ambition just the same way he left Yokohama to come to us.

Ange was well backed at Celtic imo and if he was offered 30m in a transfer kitty he has no rights to complain

Ange was always going to go after 2-3 years. It's what he does and is probably what he'll always do as long as he's a coach. He sort of played us with some of his comments while he was here, but in hindsight it was pretty obvious that he wouldn't be staying long enough to build any sort of legacy, despite some of his sound bites.

He could have been given a £50 million budget and he still would have went to Spurs, of that I have no doubt.

The Aussies called it from the start, said he'd move to Premier League given half a chance of a decent job. Wouldn't have mattered if we offered him £50m and trebled his salary, as soon as spurs came in he was always away.

If Liverpool were to go for him he'd be there in a 2nd also.

You're missing the point though, he was happy here and gearing up for season 3 (perhaps his last), til that meeting. He then went about finding another job.

Spurs wouldn't have came knocking if it wasn't for Ange being * off at the Lawwell factor and instructing his agent to go and see what was available.

Totally agree, although he’s got the opportunity to make something at Tottenham and develop them into a successful club. If Liverpool come in for him at the end of the season he’s gone

I don't agree with that. I think he was open to potential moves way before that meeting.. it's also naive to think spurs were just sitting on their hands and Ange hadn't crossed their mind until his agent gave them a bell.

I think if Lawwell didn't come back we might have had Ange for another year, which would have dovetailed nicely with the Liverpool job coming up.

Although it's doubtful that Liverpool would have looked at him before he managed in the EPL.
It's a bit of an insult to a manager who's won trophies everywhere he's been, but the EPL has a bigger opinion of inself than it deserves

100%, he got an offer from a big team in the biggest league, there's plenty of real world reasons to be annoyed at lawwell and the board, Ange leaving isn't one of them.

Not pretending just giving an opinion, and you'll notice I said "might", of course you are right he might have gone regardless.
However any chance- no matter how small- we had of keeping Ange, disapeared when Lawwell reapeared.

He woulda never been given the opportunity or even talked of for the Liverpool job if he was managing us. He always knew he’d have to do a stepping stone between us and his dream job at a team like them

See the 96th minute winner by Brennan Johnson there. Mind Kyogo, Abada and Jota scored about 100 goals like that between them under Ange?

A clear style and pattern of play. Oh how I miss those days when he had that.

Tbh I don't think it was that obvious he wasn't hanging about.

I think he was offered a job he couldn't turn down and it expedited things but I dont think he'd have left for any run of the mill club.

Still feel lawwell arriving sped things up. Could be a coincidence but with way things are going this year you can see his meddling ways.
