Definately last 16/8. the uefa cup cost rangers dar last year and even if we finished 3rd we would have 9 games more to win it and its a run with decent teams this year, * all prize money and it brings you up to May.

if we were to bow out in the last 16/ quater finals our european campaign would be over but would have been a success financially and on the pitch. it will also give us from March to concentrate solely on the League as that is the most important competition.

It would be nice to win the UEFA Cup once. I always find it a damp squib when we go out in the last 16.

A european trophy is much beter than the last 16 and i told my rangers suporter mates this last year to, the eufa cup is a hard cup to win there are always hard teams in it, infact some of these teams should be in the cl.

    bullshit!

a * cup is better than mixing it up with the biggest boys in europe?? no way! no one gives a * about the uefa cup winners, but when it gets down to the last few matches in the CL its something else! plus we may get passed the last 16 and last 8... i would get the uefa cup tae * for a shot at getting to those semi finals of the CL!

Financially its not. The extra income doesnt come from prizemoneys, its money soaked out of fans from the 8 extra matches. The players fatigue more and it does cost them domestically. UEFA Cup is a chump trophy compared to the UCL.

I would rather be in the UCL last 16 because we'd be in a better position to win the league as proven last season. Who's in the UCL now because of it and who's not?

    Last 16 without a doubt.

Its a monumental achievment for clubs like us to get through given the teams in the top tournament.

I had a blast in Seville dont get me wrong and loved every minute of that brilliant run, but the UEFA Cup is a shadow of what it was back then due to the expansion of the CL.

Definately. Its not funny how bad the competition has become because of changes made so the UCL gets more money

I think they'll have to look at it long term.

You just have to look at the teams that are contesting the latter stages to see its fall from grace, and thats not just to poke fun at the huns (well .. maybe a bit! :celt_2:).

you,ve got to remember eufa cup brings in a lot of money to , especially if you go all the way! think wee made an est, 16 million on our way 2 seville, think about it if wee get knocked in to the eufa this year add that with our cl money and wee would have a nice tidy sum! a don,t think its as bad as most of use think,,, use were,nt saying this n 2003 i bet??? plus its made up of teams thats finished 2nd 3rd and maybe 4th in their leagues, it is very hard to win to, imo i would take the uefa anyday because wee can get to the last 16 more times than wee can get to a uefa cup final, i bet if rangers didn,t get to the final last year it would maybe change some of your opinions????

UCL Last 16 Is about the same as reaching the UEFA Cup final. The format has changed dramatically since 2003, people need to stop living in the past on this.

You see with Rangers, they had to play 9 extra matches to trump what we earned in the UCL and still we had better exposure because the UEFA Cup doesnt draw that big a worldwide audience as the UCL.

Aagree it has changed with the group stage nonsense dempsey, it is a bit of a farce but the eufa cup final is watched world wide mate,, anno it,s not got a bigger audience as the cl but what am saying is it still is a big cup 2 win:icon_mrgreen: and in seville when the boys asked me which i wanted the most, the spl or eufa, my answer was uefa:icon_mrgreen: a get your point and a game of football which atracts an est, 279 million viewers cant be that bad:50:

That figure is from the 2004 season when the competition was much stronger that now, after that season the format changed so that figure is inaccurate.

Again, it is dwarfed by any comparison to the UCL

2003 shouldnt have any bearing on a competition that changed almost beyond recognition.

lol your argument goes against you... we want exposure of our brand and club, and you think we will do great in the lower cup, but you can't even spell UEFA, goes to show that its a diddy cup for pish teams, lets no bother wi it!

I think we should aim for Champions League.
Sure we have a higher chance to do well in UEFA, and one of these years (hopefully not this one !) we'll end up 3rd and in a position to put a good run in. When that time comes I hope we take it and do well, but it's not what we should be aiming for in my opinion.
We've been able to attract a good couple of players over the years that want to experience Champions League football, and we're building a reputation as a team that can do well in that competition. But how many players would be willing to make the jump for UEFA Cup football? Probably not that many.
At the end of the day, Champions League is a much higher competition and UEFA Cup isn't the guaranteed thing some are treating it as just because the orcs rolled the dice with penalties to the final and got lucky.
Ask me if I'd want to be a perennial UEFA semifinalist or a perennial CL-last-16... and the choice is obvious to me. I'd take CL last-8 over a UEFA final as well.

Since we don't really have squads with as much depth as to win the uefa cup and the league (proved by us in 03 and huns lst season) would you rather the uefa cup final and no league or last 8 & the league title?
