What is this exactly?

 

Not a clue how this works but happy to join in if someone explains what I need to do!

 

It's a game, of suspicion, putting clues together, investigation and misdirection etc. It can take various formats, but at it's most basic/simple, say a game has 13 players. 3 of those are mafia, with the remaining 10 all being town (including 2 or 3 of those town having their own additional power/ability which can be used to try to aid the townies in the game.

The game is broken into 2 phases... Day and Night.

During the 'day' phase, everyone who is still alive in the game discuss and can either choose to lynch/not lynch someone they suspect as being one ofg the mafia, which is done by having a +1 majority vote for that person. When a 'day' ends or a lynch happens, the host reveals whether or not that player was indeed mafia or innocent/any other role they had. The game then proceeds to the 'night' phase.

The night is when the mafia can decide between them to target one of the town to 'kill'. If there are town roles in the game, it is at this point where most of these can also do their bit, such as to investigate, protect, etc. When all these actions have been completed, the host then reveals what happened through the night, and it starts the next day phase with all of the surviving players still alive repeating the process to try to track down and eliminate the mafia before the mafia eliminate the town.

It can get more complicated, but that is it in a nutshell and as this is a new cycle designed for newbies to want to join in (depending on who is hosting), try not to get too overcomplicated, but it does depend on the number of players involved which also dictates the number of mafia/factions and town roles etc.

 

Some folk are innocent town folk, some are mafia. Mafia do you in during the night and town spend the day trying to lynch the mafia by convincing each other who is mafia.

Mafia sometimes rip the * and go the whole game without getting one finger pointed at them.
