What planet are you on? He's only been bettered by O'Riley and is in contention for POTY currently.

He literally saved our backline during an injury crisis and plsyed tjst well he kept his place when others returned fit. He's been the mainstay in defence this season and it's been completely warranted.

    What game do people watch?

    100% correct.

McGregor has had four good games and this has been his worst season in memory.

Bernardo has had three good games, all coming in December.

Maeda? I like him but that's a mental take thst he's had a better season than Scales. Proper off the wall opinion. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone who agreed with that statement.

Scales got caught the wrong side of a Buckie Thistle striker last week. If that’s POTY material we’d be as well scrapping the award. :56:

Might as well scrap it if a player can't win it if they make a mistake or 2. Scales has been a high performer this season

I wish he had only made one or two.

MOR is comfortably our POTY so far. It’s not even close.

Scales has done very well but I think some are kidding themselves on if they don’t see any issues with him. He’s been our best defender this season, but that doesn’t really take much given most of the others are rotten or injured.

Scales would be an ideal back up centre back. He’s ponderous on the ball and his passing can be dodgy. Think he can be caught out as well defensively.

All I would say is if Nawrocki isn’t going to be a better option, then it’s yet another sign of poor recruitment.

I thought he was a bit slow with the ball when he first came in to the squad as well but he's played quite a few great balls over the top when people actually bother to make runs for him. Most of the time now when I see him stop and take a few seconds to make a pass it's because there's zero movement in front of him, CCV has the same problem. That's a coaching issue for me.

I'm not saying he is outstanding and I'm not saying he doesn't have his faults. Some of his passing isn't very good, sometimes it's outstanding though. He played a beautiful ball over the top to Bernardo yesterday, for example.

But point to a player, excluding O'Riley, that has performed as well as him over the season so far.

I think if Nawrocki was fit throughout, Scales' story would've been very different. He would've probably been sold at the end of the summer window or most definitely this one.

He stepped in and stepped up when we needed him.

Recruitment is a whole different story as I agree that we should be singing the praises of others and we're not. That's not a kick at Scales though. No way.

A bit of a weird take. Just ignore all the good performances for a mistake. Hes only human, even the best make mistakes.

It’s more the fact his mistakes are constantly overlooked.

I dont really think anyone overlooks his mistakes. But he does far more good than the mistakes he makes.
Starfeldt made mistakes. He got caught out away at Ross County. Didnt mean he wasnt a really good defender last season.

This will always be scales problem. He could play better than CCV for 3 years... yet one mistake and he will be hounded and declared not good enough for weeks after because his names not Leo bandscalio.

I agree he isn't the answer long term it would be hard to argue against it but people bent over backwards to defend Starfelt last year who also had a mistake or a slack pass in him.

He's been good this season and barely put a foot wrong so bit harsh for him to now be getting criticism but his speed of passing is an issue. Welsh is the same to be fair. Think it's either a lack of confidence in their own ability on the ball or the fear of fans getting on their backs if they make a mistake but them taking a few extra seconds on the ball to set themselves or make sure of the pass isn't helping our game.

Nawrocki looks far quicker at moving the ball it's why he should now be replacing Scales in the team and probably one of the main reasons he was signed.

I'm fine with Scales being a rotated player if we have better than him....but until Nawrocki shows that consistently, in training or whatever, then he doesn't deserve to go infront of Scales..

Does he occasionally take a second too long on the ball and make the odd brainfart? Aye but by and large he's been immense..

Our main threat in the air
    Decent pace
    Gives us real balance
    Passing is pretty on point
    Doesn't shirk out of challenges
Covers the left back spot very well and has done so many times this season when it's been wide open

I was saying in the match thread yesterday that there was a moment second half where there was like 6 men standing doing fuckall, and I mean nothing, no movement as we were building from the back. That's nowhere near good enough and a problem I've noticed many times with whoever has had the ball at the back..

His mistakes are overlooked all the time. Starfelt was twice the player Scales is.

First I have been in this thread in a long time. I didn’t realise that Scales was a player that divided opinion amongst our fans. I think he has been one of the players of the season. He is dependable and strong in the challenge. Yes he does have some issues but so do most defenders. I can’t see why he would be deserving of the chop.

This is just a horseshit argument tbh. He’s just not good enough. Nothing to do with his name or where he came from.

TBH I don’t think we could afford Leo Bandscalio. :39:
