I think the only reason we should loan a LB for now and get Beck in the summer is if we buy him now and loan him out to Dundee for the rest of the season.

We can't run the risk of loaning a LB from a team, putting our eggs in the Beck basket, all to be priced out of the move come March when he starts playing games for Liverpool again and his price sky rockets.

There's also the worry we loan someone for 6 months, they perform extremely well and we don't have the option to buy because we have already signed Beck. So we won't then sign both.

 

What was the point in flying out to convince Rodgers to come back and not bother their * to back him in the transfer windows? And the fact that beck was our main target with no other alternative just deflates me....hopeless

 

Aye 100%. If Beck is number 1 priority you secure him ASAP and manage the situation till he can join us. Your second scenario is a risk well worth taking as it would mean we had a good LB to help win us the league. That outweighs any disappointment over not being able to sign them permanently.

True, but we know that Beck at best is a project. A very talented project, admittedly. You bring in someone from the PL, who's out of favour and without a buy out option. Say someone out of our budget right now, like Ryan Sessegnon. He comes in and is massive for us in retaining the title.

He leaves and you bring in Beck and he doesn't hit the ground running. You're essentially back to square one.

 

As a club we’ve known all season we need another LB, to help with Taylor’s workload if nothing else, Bernabei is a liability and everyone can see that. Now we become even more desperate and any club will put the price up accordingly. If only we’d accepted the opportunity to have these games postponed.

 

See this is the game we play (not just Celtic, but almost all clubs). There are never any guarantees in recruitment, it's all shoulda woulda coulda. So the best course of action is to decide who is your main target and stick with it, not worrying about what could happen if this or that.

Kinda like the way Strachan was with Broony, there were a lot of doubts whether he had the mentality for us and is he worth 4.4 million quid, but Strachan seen his potential and went all-in to get him, regardless of any risk. He believed 100% he was the man and he was right.

I get a similar vibe off Beck and think BR is completely locked onto him. So we need to go all-in and get him no matter what else happens, as to me it's so obvious he is gonna be a proper player.

 

The latter is exactly why our squad is bloated with mediocrity.

If the right player isn’t available then don’t panic buy. That’s why deadline day is the day for loans and I’d imagine we get a LB and a Striker in on loan if the Plan A’s don’t work.

 

Loans will primarily happen late though, it’s always been that way.

 

It's mad because I agree fully with what you're saying, but at this precise moment? It's too much of a gamble for me. My ideal scenario is a good loan for 6 month and bring in Beck in the summer. But if there is nothing available loan wise do we go with what we have? I don't think we can. It's the one position that would have me worried about winning the league if we don't bolster, everywhere else in the team am confident we'll get it done.

 

I think when players of 'quality' in bigger leagues, no where they stand, we might have a decent chance of picking up a couple of good loan options with buy out clauses.

I still think we get a LB and a ST.

 

We can win the league with what we have, it will be a slog. But still a loan doesn’t guarantee that we win the league. Look at the likes of Laxalt.

Yes ideally we get someone in but we have to be realistic.

Aye Laxalt had crossed my mind during an earlier reply, it's a gamble no matter which way we end up going. Just really worried about our lack of depth there, if GT gets a bad one we're unbelievably weak there. Unless of course Frame steps up...I'm all for giving him his chance while GT is out but it's too much a gamble for seeing the season out I think.

 

Will we ever learnt that you dont get good deals on last week of the window.

No professionally run club is gonna sell quality players at this stage to then leave themselves scrambling about in the last few days looking for replacements.
