It's wild to me that our only option for LB which was a problem in the summer as well is a guy who has only presented himself in the last few months

We'd been courting Araujo for months to be fair, the emergence of Beck would have been a major bonus if we managed to land him.

So why isn't Araujo an option now then?

If it's me I'm reactivating that interest, even though Beck looks a better long term option. Don't know if am getting mixed up here, but was the problem with Araujo not that his club were wanting a lot more than we think he's worth? Can't remember exactly.

Yes, they want £4m for him and we don't want to pay that much for him so moved on.

If we like Beck so much, we should buy him and loan him to Dundee. Players can be registered for 3 teams, but only play for 2. We are still allowed to buy him. Why wait till the summer?

Always get a wee bit excited seeing this thread active…then you go on and realise it’s nothing to do with any player rumours :56:

Not sure I believe that there is "no plan B".... as you say before, we were linked with Araujo and there was genuine interest. Beck has probably fell on our lap and we prefer the look of him.

That being said, I still don't think Beck is the answer right now. He's going to be excellent but is he better than GT right now? I'm not sure he is. It's not an unexciting signing. I was probably hoping for a wee bit more.

I've also not seen a lot of Beck. I think far too many people are getting excited because he had a decent game against a technically restricted Maeda. Again though, just because I haven't seen much of him doesn't mean other people won't have have valid expectations of signing him.

Aye thought as much. I don't research players like a lot of you so wouldn't know as well as you boys if we're right to drop interest or not.

As above, I'm not too clued up on the boy. Can't see us going back in now.

Said it in transfer thread squad is bloated in all the wrong areas, can't sign a left back or striker until we shift a goalie or a centre back * ridiculous

Think the game we fans noticed him is a big part in him getting our attention for sure, but apparently he'd been showing plenty of promise all season up till then. I'd imagine that didn't go unnoticed by Rodgers given he'll always be scoping out opposition.

As for him being the answer right now...ideal world you want better that GT so he can play backup, bit also a boy like Beck to grow into the role. Don't think it's feasible having 3 in there though so it's one or the other. Think we'd opt for the young potential over the experienced first pick, for better or worse.

Aye the descriptions I saw basically had him as a bigger/stronger Bernabei, plenty mobile going forward but showed nothing defensively, set alarm bells ringing tbh.

It’s not about there not being a plan b, it’s more the fact we shouldn’t settle for plan b.

January is a horrendous time to sign quality. Us knocking back a bid for O’Riley is the perfect example. Clubs have things to play for and no time to find replacements.

If Beck is who we want then we can wait until the Summer. No point bloating the squad with more plan b’s that don’t work out.

I get your point, but there is also a lot of better quality players than we currently have that aren't getting opportunities at their clubs all over Europe, and are desperate to play. January is perfect for players who want to get games time. And as difficult as it is to sign players permanently in January, Loans or loan to buy etc shouldn't be that hard.

By plan B I mean a loan to cover us until the summer, where hopefully we can go back in for Beck. But if it's a choice between not getting any sort of LB this window, or bringing in decent cover on a permanent? I'd choose the latter.
