Fantastic, gotta be honest when they were linked I was really worried he'd be away. Hopefully he goes on to shine for the rest of the season and get his big move in the Summer if he wants to go.

His heads firmly on his shoulders and as much as I detest the board I think they have played this relatively cleverly they know fine well a bidding war is likely to occur come the summer the Guy is a gem of a Player he has it all considering he’s only 23 he’s destined for the Top.

as you say if he moves on in the summer leading us to the Title he goes with my Blessing

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgershas vowed Matt O’Riley will not be sold this month after the club rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid for the Denmark international midfielder.

The La Liga side wanted to take the 23-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season in deal reportedly worth around £20m.

Further offers are possible before the window shuts with Inter Milan, Girona and Premier League clubs in England all credited with showing an interest in the player who Celtic signed from MK Dons for £1.5m in January 2022.

However, Rodgers has insisted the O’Riley will remain with Celtic until the end of the season at least as the player who has scored 10 goals and registered 12 assists in 29 appearances this season is regarded as too important to the club’s title ambitions.

Confirming the offer from Madrid, Rodgers said: “There was that but Matt is a player we don’t want to lose and he won’t be going anywhere in January.

“It’s a great testament to him and what the club can do for a player. He won his first international cap this season and Atletico Madrid are a big club in European football.

“But he is very much part of what we are doing. He has been a joy to work with and I had a good chat with Matt this morning and he is someone who will be here for us in the second part of the season.”

Young Matt has his head screwed tightly on, what a boy. Win us this league and you can have your pick of top clubs in the summer. Happy days.

Would love for him to stay longer of course. But if he decides he wants to leave in the summer I wish him nothing but the best. A joy to watch him in the hoops. The 20m quoted from Athletico Madrid seems like on the low end for me. If he leaves this summer I am hoping he becomes our record sale and goes for north of 25m.

It's nice for once to have some transparency and them to come out and clarify the situation.

The cynical side of me though suggests this will just be to appease the hoardes.

    Myself included.

If it was anything close to the lower end of of the 20 bracket, you know it'd be stuffed full of addons and a healthy sell-on clause, squeezing money out of contracts is one thing our board have a decent record of.

We didn't bring players in but we didn't lose MOR. Can guarantee it now

I would have liked him to mention how laughable the bid was too tbh.

I have a weird feeling that it’s the opposite. In my opinion I think that’s Rodgers going above what he should, and coming out with that to force the boards hand into not selling O’reilly from under him.
Could be that everyone’s on the same page….but Rodgers usually says everyone has their price. This seems different, like he knows himself he can’t afford to lose him now.
I’m sure the board would jump at a bidding war between now and the end of the window. But if we see Matt leave now then it’s only gonna look bad on the board

With the January transfer window approaching its endpoint, Brendan Rodgers’ press conferences tend to be filled with questions about players potentially coming into the club.

However, in his most recent media conference ahead of the visit of Ross County on Saturday, most of the questions focused on one man already at Celtic.

Matt O’Riley has been a star performer in Scotland and Europe this season and the Denmark midfielder’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with the manager confirming to the press that Atletico Madrid have been in contact to try and sign the 22-year-old.

However, Brendan Rodgers was adamant that O’Riley would remain, with the player wanting to stay put and the club not wanting to sell such a key player.

The manager said: “Matt’s a player we don’t want to lose and he won’t be going anywhere in January.

“I think he’s been absolutely brilliant and it’s a great testament to him and what the club can do for a player.

‘I had a good chat with Matt this morning and he will be with us for the second part of this season.’

“It’s one of the things I have been really impressed with in Matt is his mentality in how he approaches his profession and the respect he has here for Celtic.

“He knows he’s in a great place here and he wants to continue with that and for us, we’ve got no want or need to sell.

“To have him here I know he will continually get better, he’s on 10 goals and numerous assists and I expect it to grow.”

If his form dips he maybe wouldn’t get a big move, so it would be on his best interest to get the head and play well. Which I think O’Riley would, as he seems a top professional.

MOR himself takes huge credit for that, he’s clearly told BR I’m here until the summer. That’s a massive show of loyalty with Atletico Madrid chapping your door.

He’ll be one that goes, eventually, with every single fans best wishes because he’s a top professional and a top geezer to boot.

Probably wouldn’t effect a bid as much as you’d think, teams like Atletico aren’t bothered about his performances against County, it’s about what he’s done in the CL.

But it’s also equally likely they’ll get another target, and not come back for him in the summer. So fair play to him for not kicking up * for a move, because Atletico Madrid, under Simeone for the type of player he is as well, that is an exceptional move. And it’s not guaranteed to come back round. So much respect for him for him clearly keeping it calm, and not making waves.

If he wasn’t doing that, we wouldn’t have the noises that is coming out from the club today as we have. All credit to MOR here for me, give us the rest of the season and I wish him all the best to the very highest level he can move to in his career.

Just beat me to it mate :56:

I’m genuinely very impressed with him, majorly. Because for me, if I was him (no connection to Celtic) looking at the move objectively for best career, the move would be better for him. A lot of loyalty and integrity shown from him.
