That Saudi league has fallen apart already. Shambles.

Back to buying EPL teams for them.

Al Ettifaq are approximately the size of Dundee Utd in terms of fans, are managed by Steven Gerrard and just lost Henderson who couldn't get out fast enough. Jota is so much better than that.

Players who leave rarely come back. Izaguirre and Mulgrew two recent examples that have come back and the former should've never been brought back. But with Jota I'd jump at the chance of his return, just don't think it's likely.

He should have never left. If you're leaving at least go to a Top 5 league ffs.

It was a ridiculously stupid decision based on greed. Disappointed me at the time and still bugs me now.

I love the guy but he only has himself to blame.

Hopefully gets his career back on track - he’s human that kind of money on offer to give security to him and family for life is a head turner.

Genuinely think he fell in love with the club and would have been here for a good few years if that opportunity didn’t come out of the blue. Also think he’d come back on loan in a heartbeat but rightly so we shouldn’t entertain that unless there’s an option of permanent

Earning in a year what he could earn in a whole career stupid. Honestly we can all say we wouldn't take 10m a year from the Saudis but none of us will be in that situation. They recruited some top talent and he thought he'd be playing it.

The money was too good to turn down. Both for us and him let's be honest.

He's worth more to us than what we got I'd say but in modern football for a player playing in Scotland to go for that was good going.

    Pls come back.

Regardless of what was offered in wages to Jota.

Celtic just do not turn down £25mill for any player

Imagine final days of the window.

Jota returns on a 18 month loan and we can get him on a pre contract...

Followed by Tierney at the same time.

    Mon Desmond. Make it happen.

The way our board is currently your right there is no way we were turning down 25m. I will say though lets not forget Benfica had a healthy sell on clause which netted them I think about 6m and we paid them about 6m to sign him so we even with that sell on more then doubled our money on Jota and got 2 great seasons from him while with us. This is exactly why IMHO we should be signing in the 5-7m bracket and stop signing the 1-2m project/punts. Our model of selling on at a big profit doesn't change just the initial outlay.

I wouldn’t say whole career in a year more like a whole five year contract in a year

Even after paying Benfica they Celtic still got approx £18.5m from the deal, so still made about £12m profit in one season. But the fact we went out and spent about that during the summer on guys mainly not ready to fill the void the answer is probably not.

Another thing is with Jota it’s unlikely he comes back to the UK in Janaury as he will have one big tax bill to pay would he not on those tax free Saudi wages? I know he would likely have one anywhere he goes but UK taxation is a bit steeper than a lot of countries.

Na, that was full career money, plus no tax because it's Saudi so even more so

    Numbers because I'm bored,

Average prem salary is ~£60k a week, Jota was on a reported £192k per week, 3.2x higher, so right off the bat that's equivalent to 9.6 years of pay, but, no tax in Saudi so that's 19.2 years equivalent earnings (give or take)

Average retirement age is about 35 Jota was 24 so you'd expect 11 years of earnings so almost 2 careers worth of money for an average top level professional

Wonder if he’d face a huge tax bill if he came back to Europe

How does that work? Like I’m thinking why would he have to pay a tax bill in Europe for work carried out outside of Europe where there was no tax? :43:
