Paulo Bernardo

I’m often wrong, but I just liked him instantly and thought he was a good player.

He came on against Atletico at home when Hatate got injured. The game was moving at a frantic pace. The way he used his body to let the ball roll in to a favourable position instead of panicking and taking a touch under pressure impressed me instantly.

For everyone I spoke to that said he didn’t do anything, I always thought that he didn’t do anything wrong. Starting to look like a top quality player, and looks like he belongs in the starting 11 now.

 

Paulo Bernardo has yet to speak to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers about his long-term future, with the on-loan Benfica midfielder preferring to focus on the here and now.

Bernardo has emerged as a mainstay of the Celtic midfield over the past month or so, and he hit a delightful opener against Buckie Thistle to maintain his fine recent goalscoring form.

That impact has led to questions over a possible permanent move to Scotland, with Celtic having the option to purchase the 21-year-old for a fee believed to be around the £6m mark at the end of the season.

When asked if he had discussed the possibility of extending his stay in Glasgow with his manager though, Bernardo said: "No. He and me just want to keep the things going well and to improve a lot.

"I am enjoying it a lot. The fans are unbelievable and they like me, so I am feeling good too. I just have to keep going and doing things well.

"I just think about the present, game by game, how I can improve. Then the other things will happen.”

Bernardo’s goal against the Highland League outfit was his third in the last fourth games, and he is keen to maintain his strike rate in the second half of the campaign.

“It’s my job too,” he said.

“I have to do my best. Happily everything is going well for me, but I want to do more.

“I think I can do better in the second half of the season. I have to improve a lot in my game so I just have to continue to work hard and everything is going to go well.

“To win 5-0 was a great way for us to come back after the winter break. It’s our job to score goals. We have to respect the other team and never put the foot on the brake.

“We did that well today. We played a good game and enjoyed playing back at Celtic Park.”

We have to sign him. Deffo see us selling O’Riley in the summer so would really soften the blow having bernardo here permanently

Finish yesterday was lovely despite who the opposition were.

Clearly he is full of confidence and is really starting to show us how good he can be as a result. Long may it continue. He has a big part to play in this business end of the season for sure.

Don't know if it's a Scottish thing, or an age thing ?!? But yeah... "Paulo Bernardo" FFS.... As soon as you hear the name you think "this * was christened to be * good at football" !!!

 

Amazing the difference a couple of O's can make. Get rid of them and Paul Bernard sounds like an '80's comic

Really stepped up the last month or so. Hopefully sign him, but more likely buy three £1.2 million projects and hope one works, while leaving the other two on a wage they won’t get anywhere else for four years

 

I have liked what I have seen so far, I think the fee to buy him was about 6 million, if that is true I would say sign him up

 

I’m sure Brendan said the fee wasn’t as high as being quoted for him.

 

Really. If accurate, that's excellent news. I was definitely on the fence on him until recently, but if he continues his recent form it's a no brainer.
