Really really can’t understand what’s going on here with the club. If they want vata….why only playing today? If mikey johnston is going….why play him? Makes no sense.

He's young, maybe an agent in his ear telling him to run down his contract and see if he can get a move , who knows. Offer him a few years and either play him or get him a decent loan spell

The last couple of managers have not been the best at giving kids game time, understand their frustration at thinking their future lies elsewhere.

Don't get the situation at the club at all with this one.

But happy to see him get game time and his goal.
Obviously we all want to see youth do well and get their chance, so fingers crossed this is a sign of it happening at least with this lad.

If he's previously decided to run his contract down, because we wasn't giving him a pathway forward. That shouldn't have meant we just bombed him out til now. We should have been showing him a pathway a lot more and trying to encourage a talent to stay with us.

I'd be honestly happy with a manager who can sort out the bloated squad, whittle or down to a core 23-25 man squad and then add another 5-7 from the youth setup to compliment and add a bit of depth.

Assuming the core 23-25 was of actual decent quality in the first place.

    Hart
    AJ, CCV, Nawrocki, Left Back
    Hatate, McGregor
    Abada, O'Rielly, Palma
    Kyogo

    Bain
    Ralston, Center Back, Scales, Taylor
    Iwata, Bernardo
    Forrest, Att Mid, Left Winger
    Oh

    Maeda, Lagerbielke.

Then see 5-7 from the youth.

Where the missing players in the lineups are actually first team ready players!

I'm all for him staying as he has shown he has something about him whenever he has featured.

The rumours of wanting guaranteed gametime is a worry. Could be pushed by his da or himself so that he actually progress. Could all be bullshit.

I'd give him a new deal and a plan on how he can make it here.

First step would be loaning him out to a top flight team for the rest of the season. We'll then know what he's really about come the end of the season, just like Kwon.

It's weird how this has happened tbh. None of it makes sense.

Yep, another strange one.. we sign projects from the four corners of the globe and have one sitting here well capable of playing in the first getting no opportunities..

Could see he was putting in a good shift. A lot of work off the ball, nice position for the goal. Would like him to stay and even help out kyogo from the bench while maeda and oh are at the Asian cup if we don’t bring in another striker

Brendan Rodgers says that Rocco Vata’s Celtic future is in his own hands, as he revealed that he would like to keep the youngster at the club.

Vata, who got his first senior goal for Celtic as he rounded off the 5-0 win over Buckie Thistle, has been the subject of speculation during the January transfer window, with reported interest from Italian clubs in prising him away from Glasgow.

His contract expires in the summer, but Rodgers says there is an offer on the table for the 18-year-old, as he encouraged the Irish youth international to be patient and earn his place in the Celtic team.

When asked if he hopes Vata will commit his future to the club, Rodgers said: “Yeah, but listen, that will be up to him.

“He is a talent and it depends what the mentality is with him and his representatives. “You get some young players whose representatives will tell you that if he’s not playing in the first team starting then they don’t want to stay. If that’s the case, you’d better go then because you’ve got to earn the right.

“He is 18 and I don’t need players ready at 18 unless they are real, real special talents. At 20 or 21 they need to be ready. But you can see he has tools, and this can be a really good place for him to develop.

“It was nice for him to get his goal because that’s a good feeling and he has been here a long time as a young player and he has strengths we could develop.

“I believe [he has a contract offer]. There have been chats around that. My focus is purely on the playing aspect, but there will be something there for him I’m sure.

“Young players have to earn the right and the likes of Rocco there has been a lot of noise around him, but he is a very young player and he has to earn the opportunity. I’ve given many young players an opportunity in my career.

“I like Rocco. He has qualities. He is strong, he’s aggressive and from 25 yards in he wants to get goals. You can see even when he came on, he got his goal and he had another few opportunities. That’s good for him, he got a taste for it.

He's not gonna get guaranteed playing time at some of the clubs rumoured either. Guaranteed game time at 18 is hard tonfind unless as Rodgers states, you're really special.

Because he was adamant he was leaving, and that has changed that he might be wanting to stay and accept the offer that was on the table.

How is it outrageous? He's said they don't need to be ready at 18, which they don't. At 21 they should be ready to play a reasonable part in the squad.
