BR is basically saying Taylor good enough for SPL but struggles in Europe.
That for me says no new LB until summer best case, no new LB at all worst case.

I do think BR talking up Scales at LB is an interesting one, if Nawrocki comes through might work - but will he be significantly better than Taylor there? I doubt it.

Thought scales looked poor anytime I’ve seen him at left back. Rather keep scales cb where he’s been really good and get an actual left back

Agreed. He wasn't howling at LB, but he wasn't close to being an upgrade to Taylor.

At CB he's performed far, far better.

On his debut for Ireland he started left back first half and was shocking tbh. Collins was left cb and was even worse so Collins got hooked at half time and scales moved to cb and was very good 2nd half. Clearly his strongest position so u think it would be madness for Rodgers to change that unless ofcourse were playing a team sitting 10 men in their own half then I’m sure scales could play left back

Aye, I hope to not see Scales at LB for us again. If we do it's down to being desperate I'd say. Possibly he'd be better now having had regular game time and be more settled but he always looked slow at LB to me.

I also think playing him at LB would weaken us at CB. With CCV going at some point keeping Scales development going at CB is another consideration.

I might be in a minority here, but I agree that Taylor is good domestically. I was as fustrated as anyone that we didn't buy the LB we clearly needed last summer; but at this stage, we're out of Europe and half the Hun games are done too. We basically only need a better LB for 2 (or possibly 3) games against the Huns for the rest of the season.

The ideal would still be to get a LB this window; but if we can get a better one by waiting until the summer, I'm OK with waiting.

The problem with this line of thinking, of course, is that we just can't trust them to get one in the summer. :54:

The other problem is Taylors contract must be running down so we might need 2 fairly soon.

Can't understand why we aren't offloading Bernabei as well as that just complicates things

Fully believe we're adamant we want the boy Beck and are willing to wait for him if need be. Looks like it's a case of seeing how it develops towards the end of the window, really hope we have a fall back option though as we need at least backup for rest of this season.

Bernabei would be gone in a heartbeat, if any * wanted him.

Must be someone. He's got a whole other continent of clubs that would be viable than most. Surely a loan to buy, with us paying a chunk of wages can work for someone at the very least.

If not then loan him out in SPL on the basis he's at least playing and might go in the summer.

We only have 1 left back at the club we remotely trust though mate.

For a supposedly well run football club it's embarrassing we have to convince ourselves as fans that's OK and can wait another 6 months.

What if Taylor gets injured? We've needed one for about 2 or 3 windows now if not longer, it's just negligence.

Being out of Europe isn't an excuse. It's part of the problem and needs solved.

i think that summarises everyones thoughts on Taylor, he is fine domestically and even technically especially last season he looked good at times in Europe but you can actively see teams target him in Europe defensively and I think he really struggles physically against the better teams.

How I measure a first team player at Celtic these days generally is would you be comfortable with them lining up for us on matchday one in the CL and Taylor is always a concern.

I think with Scales you would probably have the opposite issues at full back. Would struggle technically but would probably be a better option defensively against better sides.

He won't get a wage close to what he has with us anywhere else.

Never saw him for Ireland, but thought he looked better than Taylor at LB when Ange played him there. Defended well and got up the wing and put some good balls in. Sure he got at least 1 assist. Think Ange's problem was that Scales played more like a traditional LB, and didn't adapt to inverted.

Even though I don’t really rate scales that well at left back he could still be better there then Taylor who I don’t rate tbh. Still rather Oul scalesy at centre half where he’s stamped down his place tbf

Possibly missed it but in a later post I mentioned us covering part of his wages for a loan. Same would be the case if we moved him on.

At this point there is literally no positive to us retaining him. Us holding onto him for 2/3 years is batshit.

That's probably the most realistic option.

Quite honestly, by the end of the summer, both Bernabei and Taylor should be gone, with an experienced LB in his prime brought in, and Frame promoted permanently to first team to be the main backup LB and be mentored by the new first-choice one. Could also retain Montgomery just for extra depth.

Would make up for losing a Scottish-trained player in Taylor.

It’s not just a question of whether he’s good enough; it’s about fitting Rodgers’ preferred system, and he clearly just doesn’t.

Really dont think Scales is the solution either. Could see Scales doing a good job for us if we were to go 3 at the back or even fill in at LB say in an away European tie.
A Celtic full back will spend most of his time supporting the attack and just dont see this as one of Liams attributes.
