Nicolas Kuhn has admitted he is thrilled to have finally signed for Celtic after a "stressful" transfer process and "problems" in departing Vienna.

The winger became Brendan Rodgers' first signing of the January window as he signed a five-and-a-half-year deal at Parkhead.

Kuhn, 24, did have other offers on the table this month but decided on a move to Glasgow with Celtic paying a transfer fee in the region of £3million.

But the former Germany youth international revealed it was a stressful journey to Celtic with "problems" in Vienna leading to a delay in finalising his switch.

In his first press conference as a Celtic player, Kuhn said: "It was a stressful week but I am really happy to be here. I have met all my team-mates and the staff and a lot of people around the club, really nice people.

"I can't wait to get started."

Quizzed on the stressful week, Kuhn explained: "When I was at Vienna still, there were some problems with coming here. It took a little bit longer than expected so I had to wait the whole time to take a flight here.

Then it was getting really fast, I had to do the medical check and fly to Glasgow, then I had all the pictures in the evening.

"Yesterday was my first time at the club and today was my first training session so there were a lot of things to do."

Kuhn - previously at Ajaz and Bayern Munich - is hopeful his switch to Celtic could help him achieve international ambitions and fulfil his desire to perform in the Champions League.

He added: "For me it was clear the moment Celtic called and showed interest that I wanted to come here.

"There was some interest from other clubs. But the moment I received the message, I didn't really think about going somewhere else.

"I want to play in the Champions League and go to the national team. Now I made a big step to a big club. Of course in the future I want to play for the national team, that was a point in why I came here.

"The opportunity is really nice. If you see the stadium and everything, and the fans, it is unbelievable."

It's good news that he's supposed to be rapid. Love Palma, but it would be interesting to see Maeda on the left and Kuhn on the right against. Having two rapid wingers could cause some opponents major problems.

Looking forward to seeing him hopefully make his debut at the weekend. Hopeful that Kuhn might actually be a legit signing and not yet another hopeful project/punt.

If he’s a confidence player as most wingers are and he’s as pacy and direct as he’s been marketed, there’s every chance he’ll take to being a Celtic player like a duck to water.

Really interested to see him in the flesh now. Hopefully starting Sunday.

Kuhn, however, will not make his debut against Buckie. “Nic won’t be involved at the weekend,” he said. “He had actually been quite a period out. He had an operation on his teeth so he lost a bit of strength. But he will be okay for Ross County.”
