No mate. I haven't seen the one on Disney, but it's not the same thing, the Disney one is more a modern day nature doc which features the landscape and wildlife in the various parks as of today.

The Ken Burns one I'm talking about is about the history of the creation of the parks, battles with politicians, Native American tribes, double dealing by oil and gas companies, big mining corps trying to block the parks etc, and the tireless efforts of those campaigning to have these areas of pristine natural beauty protected, and the story is largely told using direct quotes from people at the time. It touches on the actual landscapes and the wildlife as well obviously, but it's much much more than a wildlife program, it's a real and in-depth historical record of the incredible efforts by those who made the parks a reality. It's an incredible story, but it's the way the story is told that really sets this one apart from others, it's an incredibly well put together piece of history.

I've just looked on YouTube to see if I could find a trailer, and found episode 1. The first 15/20 minutes is an introduction/overview of what we have today, then the actual documentary starts ......... To really get this, you want to get comfortable with a glass of wine and no distractions, it's worth making the effort to listen closely to the story. Edit, all episodes are on YouTube. I'm going to watch the whole thing again.

    The Great American Buffalo.....

On BBC 4 now, part 2 of a two part documentary.......I realise I'm a bit late recommending this one, but it's an old one that just happens to be getting shown again. I recommend checking it out to anyone who hasn't seen it. Very powerful documentary by Ken Burns (yeah yeah, him again....) which tells the almost unbelievable story of how the Buffalo/ Bison were impacted by the wrath of Western civilization (???!!!???). Another fantastically well televised piece of documented history.

PBS America has some decent documentaries, watched one last night and was pretty decent tbh considering current events.

Netanyahu, America & the Road to war in Gaza

This is a tough watch at times, but a really good documentary. It’s a bit * up though because you know that the Iraqi forces are up to no good themselves. They’re even on camera tormenting a guy on this and laughing about it.It’s wee things like ‘Don’t do any thing to him’ when the cameras are on them etc - quite chilling, and to see terrified (yet brave) men on their knees trying to reassure their families behind them….ahh it’s all so * up man.

We are so lucky to have been born and live where we are.

    The Secret Army

The true story of a strange, lost film. In 1972, the IRA allowed an unusual documentary crew to film its members carrying out attacks. Right at the bloodiest point of the Northern Ireland conflict, IRA bombers were filmed unmasked, and most of its underground leadership appeared on camera. The film looked like a propaganda coup, before disappearing and going largely unseen for almost 50 years, with the IRA never allowing anything like it to happen again.

The unearthing of the film sets Darragh MacIntyre off in search of the men who made it, the bombers who willingly showed their faces on camera, and the reason for its disappearance. In doing so, he finds himself following the footprints of spies

    Bowling For Columbine
Michael Moore looks at the complex role of guns in America, focusing in particular on the tragic multiple shootings at Columbine High School in 1999.
