It's even worse when you consider two of the very few successes out of that group were pure Ange scouted/known signings.

Maeda and Mooy.

That means it's only really Johnston and Palma out of that group who could be considered a Mark Lawwell success.

Absolutely * gawling looking at that group.

Lazio are absolutely dug * and have 10 points, Feyenoord struggling on 6. Very little between ourselves Lazio and Feyenoord and with an extra couple of bits of quality in the summer we would have been in with a real chance of 2nd in the group or at very very least 3rd. Instead we have 1 * point and have just set an new record for no wins.

2nd year in a row we've had a very decent group and real chance to progress and the board have completely * us over yet * go along to Agm and sit their laughing while they make * jokes about hun penalties

 

Looking at the team tonight two summer signings started- Yang and Bernardo. Both were pretty poor. What is more striking is the amount of money spent on the starting 11. Not much.

Hart- Nominal fee from Spurs. Rumoured £500k.

Johnston- £3 million
CCV- £6 million
Scales- £500k
Taylor- £2 million

McGregor- Home grown
O'Riley- £1.75 million
Bernardo- Loan

Yang- £2 million
Kyogo- £4.5 million
Forrest- Homegrown

Total: £20 million.

That is really Conservative spending. Even with Hatate, Maeda and Palma included you are talking around £26 million- Nawrocki takes it to £30 million. We will get nowhere in Europe with that type of spending.

 

Wow, I never realised that. The entire starting 11 for £20 million? Wow.

 

The galling thing is that we all knew this before a ball was kicked at the start of the season. Our recruitment has been shameful given the funds available, not least the jota sale. I’m willing to give brendan the benefit of the doubt here in that he came in late and spending money for the sake of it before the window closed wasn’t the correct path. I still believe this. Which is why I still think we should give the board a stay of execution here, assuming they heavily back him in January and, especially, in summer. This isn’t Brendan’s team. He lost jota and you may as well include Abada, Hatate and to an extend CCV in that- given the injuries. That was the core of Ang’s team. He deserves the next two windows and I for one will give him that. I how we all feel the same. The board need to step the * up now.

 

This is it, in a nutshell.

 

It was supposed to be the most exciting summer in a long time. The nucleus of a strong team, funds available and Rodgers brought in - who, regardless of your views on him, we all believed wouldn’t have come back without assurances on spending. For those reasons, this summer has been the biggest let down in living memory.

 

Is anyone still defending the summer window?

 

Even the guys that defend it say they were ‘disappointed’ but refuse to accept it was the responsibility of the people who are responsible for our transfer window activity.

It’s all very strange.

 

Crazy to think some people were satisfied with the summer business. Absolutely lunacy

 

The summer window will end up being a microcosm of this season.

Just as it became obvious very early on something wasn't right about the transfer window, it will be the same for this season's league campaign. It's now obvious our season is imploding but they'll still be insisting everything's fine we're all just "panty wetters"... as the Huns go ahead of us week by week.
