I'm not head of recruitment who has hundreds of players information at his disposal and we can get better than McKenna.

Aye he’s not slow. He’d be a cracking back up. He’s good on the ball as well, fast and strong. He’s a good player, but he’s not a top earner automatic first team.

Right now I’d have him before Nawrocki, Lagerbielke and Welsh though definitely

I'd probably be the same tbh but Nawrocki gives me hope. I also don't think Lagerbielke is as bad as * make out he jusr needs to put on some muscle.

I think we need to remember as fans how young these guys are. Nowhere near their peak.

For those who are in love.....
Lagerbielke's lack of pace has been noticeable in every game since he's came in..

He looked a really good player from his reels, spraying it about with either foot effortlessly and had excellent write ups from scouts/Swedes who watched him regularly..

I was all for it but I didn't realise just how slow he was. We replaced him for someone who was the complete opposite of what Starfelt was..

That's poor scouting/decision making (if it was the shared agent who offered him to us)..

A Celtic centre half now should be pretty mobile. Doesn't have to be rapid, Carter-Vickers isn't....but with the high line we play....I don't personally like slow centre halves..

Had a little peak on NF forum about him..

They really did rate lots about him.. strong, heart of lion, great attitude etc...

The PL is just maybe a step up for him tho he had done well in some of the games.. let's face PL probably a step too far for most..

I actually hope this happens now, but wages may be the issue.

IIRC Rodgers wanted him before he went south.

I think it'll happen. If the interest is genuine and the manager wants him then the board should back him.

Just my opinion he's pish and even scales and Welsh are better than him and would prefer we looked at the french or Dutch market and find another bobo balde or a van * or player very similar.

Who could We get though that is better? We need a bit of experience and leadership for the backline just now and McKenna does fit the bill.

I think he could be a really good signing tbh I’m just confused as to what the plans are currently with our centre halves at the club as Right now scales and ccv are the main men but apart from that we’ve welsh, nawrocki and lagerbielke who have all been rotated so is there a plan to offload the likes of lagerbielke or what? I’m just confused with the amount we have.
I agree with people saying sometimes it’s a better move to go for a more experienced player who will bring stability rather than a younger player with potential who will probably look to move on after 2-3 seasons. I’ve actually always thought McKenna was decent tbh and right now he’s what 27? Coming into peak years, will be looking to play regularly, fits homegrown quota, has international and premier league experience whilst also having spfl experience. I definitely wouldn’t be against it for the apparent price. Could come and do well here and stick with us for 7 years etc.
but like I said I’m not sure the plan right now with all of our cb options surely if someone’s coming in a couple will be shipped out

I think we do need that as well. Which is why I’ve said we should have a core group of younger players that can net the club money. The rest should be made up of experienced players.

I’ve never once said it’s all we should sign mate. I was basically just answering the question as to why fans care about the business side of things when it comes to purchasing younger talents.

I’ve also said on here that we should sign McKenna for 3 main reasons. 1, He provides decent enough cover at CB. 2, he comes on a free and 3, he provides us with another body for the HG quota for Europe.

I also listed a bunch of players on the player suggestions thread that we could pick up for nothing who were coming to the end of their contracts and were experienced players. People like Bertrand Traore, Dennis Praet and Ryan Gauld.

Is this an area we need to look at right now? Surely there are way more important areas to get us over the line in May.
And I just dont reckon he is any better-or worse, than what we have right now.

I don't think it is priority and we may wait for a pre contract but if you can get him now for a nominal fee, why not.

I get the impression Rodgers doesn't rate any of our centre backs barring CCV and Scales, based on how sparingly he uses them. So Rodgers probably sees it as a priority.

This would be a fantastic signing for all the reasons many posters have mentioned. The homegrown quota is the part I've been banging my head off a brick wall about for years. It's mental that we go into the start of the Champions League campaign without a full squad due to having empty HG slots.

As we saw this year, a few red cards and a couple of injuries, and we are thread bare.
McKenna is probably the only international class Scot that is within our grasp right now. Rodgers will know this. I'd be surprised if he doesn't make this his priority.

I'm inclined to believe he wants to rid the squad of deadwood and free up space. I think he will be able to sell/loan 2 players in Lagerbielke and Kobayashi and more than likely grab a decent transfer fee for both, maybe £3m for the both of them. He can probably get McKenna for * all, since he would have less than 6 months on his contract, too.

I think it's something we may see a lot of this current window. 2 CBs out and 1 in. 2 midfielders out in Turnbull and Ideguchi and one in. Possibly a couple of wingers out in MJ and Tilio and another ST/RW brought in. LB will probably be 1 in and 1 out. GK in the summer will probably be 2 out, 2 in.
