I think he’s a solid defender but I think he’s too limited and doesn’t suit what we need from a centre back.

He’s got a lot of experience, he’s strong and reasonably fast but he can’t really play and we need centre backs who are comfortable on the ball and can drive forward if/when they need to and keep the ball under pressure.

He’s be great value for money, but it sends the wrong message of our recruitment process. Why haven’t we identified 4/5 centre backs who would suit our style?

If we have a decent recruitment team that more than likely use data (Hearts use data so I assume we use data too) why can’t they find defenders that suit our style within a reasonable price range? I’ve seen our player suggestion thread which seems to find decent players quite a lot.

Lagaerbielke was one of the best defenders in Sweden and had great stats with the ball at his feet. He has reportedly been deemed as not up to it.
He also looks as if he would get blown away by a strong wind.

That approach isnt guaranteed to work.

We also continue to saturate the squad with foreign players while our home geown quota is now low.

If he were named Sancho McKinho everybody would have been ecstatic about this. For some reason scottish players are never good enough till it's too late and we cannot afford them anymore. In the meantime, the scottish NT qualified for the euros while beating Spain in the process.

The ultimate example is McGinn. We had a 150-page thread prior to his Aston Villa move. The consensus at the time was that we could find a better player than McGinn. Even after he was appointed captain at Villa, people were still arguing he wasn't good enough. Go figure. Not saying McKenna is anywhere near close McGinn's level, but I'd be perfectly happy with him.

Another example would be Lewis Ferguson. I dont think it would have ever have happened, but some of our fans were spouting the same pish about him as they were Mcginn. Im convinced these folk know nothing about the Scottish game.

People have short memories. We have had a lot of success from players signed within our league - Mcdonald, Brown, Robson, Caldwell, all played at a decent level for us and won trophies.

Would be very disappointed if we signed him and tells me the ambition from the board is zero and with the amount of money in the bank .

Stephen McGowan hinting that he might be too expensive for us. Assuming he means wages.

Makes me think he was being aimed at as a solid back up option, with a Lagerbielke rumoured to be leaving, Welsh’s dodgy injury record.

    * CCV’s dodgy injury record.

Maybe to start with, when they get to the Premiership most contracts shoot up massively

apparently only up to 20k. I saw somewhere he got frozen out after asking for more as other players at Forrest are on 50k-100k. He will probably demand 30kpwcat the moment as he has 6 months to see if someone will offer it.

Thankfully, Celtics stingy wage cap will mean this doesn't happen then.

We barely pay that much for a starting player, let alone what would be at best a 4th choice CB.

Best of luck to him, I imagine there’s a top end Championship team that will probably do that. Not worth that to us but.

He pushes Scales but doesn’t get ahead of him for me, I hate two left footed CB’s so he’s in for him or bench.

If He is now on £30k+
He is definitely a player that would bring leadership and experience to the backline if We did sign him.

    Where you getting this from?

After the spate of new contracts start of the year naecunts a clue, wasn’t even a guess of figures in the media.

Our wage bill last year was £61m, say if the rest of the staff was…. Lets say £30m. Plucked that figure from nowhere and aimed high.

So £31m on the first team? Averages out about £20k a week, with 30 first team players which I think I’ve aimed high with that as well.

£25m with the 30 first teamers averages out as £16k a week

There is a few over £16k for sure, our captain being the highest (or up there) as the top earner over £30k.
Some are well below £16k though, I'm sure we all understand how an average would work.

New deals for players will certainly see them on improved contracts, but the vast majority of our signings when they first come in are well below £20k.
I believe Hart, an experienced international came in at around £15k. Do you honestly think we would willingly through £20k plus at Scott McKenna? Guys like Josip and Giakoumakis was on low deals as well, hence a desire to move on where they manage to massively increase their wage.

Kyogo and maeda, Japanese internationals are under £20k as well.
Nawrocki, reportedly on £12k - again is McKenna worth more than these guys?

Where are you getting these numbers from? £62m is the wage paid out last year. If you half that number, it’s still nowhere near they figures.

Kyogo after his new deal in the summer, is under £20k? How do you know that and why the * would he sign that :56:

Distinctively remember Hart and MCcarthy are correct. I'd assume most others are about right.

It's pretty common knowledge/opinion that as a club, we do not pay very well at all.

We spend 3mill on players and pay them a pittance. When other clubs will pay 3-5mill and pay twice as much as we will and get a half decent player for their troubles.

Scott McKenna, to keep it on topic, is not half decent for us. He would still be 3rd or 4th choice (more like 4th) and I'd be fuming if we entertained paying over 10k for a player that is 4th choice.
