Also a couple of midfielders we should be looking at from the Eredivisie.

Peer Koopmeiners, 23 year old defensive midfielder, playing for Almere City on loan from AZ. Been excellent this season. Plays exactly like his big brother. They're very similar. Had a loan spell with Excelsior back end of last season and done well. But he's really kicked on this year at Almere. Valued at £1.5m but looks to really have kicked on this season.

Magnus Mattsson, 24 year old central midfielder for NEC. 17 games this season and has scored 10 goals and 5 assists from midfield. Again, one who's really kicked on this season. Had been doing decent for NEC since his move from Silkeborg in 2021. Had a really good year playing in the attacking midfield role in the Danisg 1st division that year, scoring 22 times and getting 8 assists in 30 games at 20 years old. Got him the move to Holland but he didn't replicate that form his first 2 seasons, mostly down to the fact he was playing as a Left Winger for them. He's played centrally this season and it's paying off with the same amount of goals this season already that his 2 previous full seasons.

I can see Brendan going back to Leicester for some experience
Dennis Praet is out of contract in the summer
Plus I have a feeling Jamie Vardy could be brought in

Some more players we should be looking at in January in positions we need upgraded on.

Aiden Morris(Columbus Crew)- 22 year old defensive midfielder who has excelled this season. Strong in the tackle, physical and good on the ball. 4 goals and 4 assists from deep in midfield but he averaged over 3 tackles per game and 1.7 interceptions last year in the MLS. His passing percentage was also over 92%. Only valued at £3m at the minute but his stock will continue to rise, especially given he was part of the MLS Cup champions. He was also in the top 20 on the form table over the course of the MLS season.

Ryan Gauld(Vancouver Whitecaps)- One we all know about I'm sure, given his constant links over the years and how he came to prominence as a 16 year old at Dundee United. Has been amazing in the MLS over the last 2 and a half years. 94 games for Vancouver, 26 goals and 30 assists from attacking midfield. He's now their captain and was nominated for the MVP award this season. Valued at £7m on transfer market but into the final year of his contract, could we persuade him to come home. At 28 years old, he's now an experienced midfielder who could fill the void left by Aaron Mooy in the summer.

Lameck Banda(Lecce)- 22 year old winger, playing in Serie A at the minute. Had a good start so far this season, with 2 goals and 5 assists in 14 games so far. Rapid. When watching him, it's like watching young Gnonto from Leeds. Low centre of gravtiy but strong, quick and tricky on the ball. Valued at £4m on transfer market. Playing in Serie A so not sure if he would be out reach/budget but looks a really good player.

Emil Breivik(Molde)- 23 year old versatile midfielder who can play anywhere in midfield. Has played games in defensive midfield for Molde, central midfield and attacking midfield which highlights his impressive stats. 46 games this season, 12 goals and 11 assists. His defensive work is also impressive, though. Averaging over 2 tackles a game and nearly 2 interceptions a game. Valued at £4m on transfer market.

Some good suggestions the sad thing is the USG players will likely be out of what our board will pay. Puertas is a quality player, in fact we should go and try get their scouting department it is excellent at finding players in the range we are willing to pay.

The fact we were looking for a left sided centre back and didn’t sign Koki Machida when we were so active in Japan was a serious miss. He had an 18 month loan then they paid only €1m for him. Now being touted for a £15m move. Tall around 6’3, comfortable on the ball and strong in the tackle and with his positioning.

But they have done some amazing business over the last few years.

I agree, unfortunately. They were both signed from Switzerland for a combined £3.5m. They likely go for around 7/8 times that now.

I think Denkey would be an excellent signing up front. He's been a monster in Belgium this year. I'd also hope we are looking at the two boys from Holland. Koopmeiners is going to be very good but I think AZ will want to bring him back next season and play him. Mattsson has incredible stats this year for a midfielder.

I like the look of Faris Moumbagna at Bodo Glint 15 goals in 28 matches only 23 yrs old. Would be ideal fit for the big CF role when Giakoumakis left.

If we are losing O'Reilly during the summer, I would like to see if we can grab Albert Grønbæk from Bodø. There are apparently a few Italian clubs sniffing about him.

This time last year I suggested Yann Bisseck, now he is at Inter and doing really well.

He’s the absolute dream replacement for O’Riley. Would probably cost around £10m but would be absolutely worth it.

Would also love Brievik from Molde. He’s another we should be looking to add to our midfield.

Sell O'Riley for 20+, make an offer of 10 million for him, he sees what has happened with O'Riley and comes to us for a year or two

Grønbæk would be an great addition to our squad, but I doubt we'd be able to compete on wages given the clubs he's being linked with. He is 95% certain to leave in the winter window.

We'd have to break our transfer record to bring him in, which I doubt Lawwell will sign off on.

Breivik in Molde will probably be the cheaper alternative, but even he would probably command a fee around £6-7m.

Id absolutely love both and there really isn’t any reason why we couldn’t sign both.

Gronbaek and Brievik, with the right club project in place, would surely be tempted by playing here. I get the wages in Italy/France/Germany would be higher but we managed to convince players to come here before and we should be trying again.

Say both cost you £17m, it’s likely we will be able to make £25m from O’Riley and we will likely get over £12m for Hatate no reason why we couldn’t sign both when it comes to transfer fees.

I notice you mentioned Bisseck earlier, see he’s actually starting for Inter these days.

Yet somehow, we never even managed to identify him when he was playing in the Danish League. Exactly the sort of player we should have been targeting

I like your optimism, but I just can't see us spend big money on Grønbæk. Frankly I doubt he'll come here when there will be Bundesliga and Serie A clubs willing to double our wages and give him a bigger stage to play on weekly. I don't think our current project is very tempting either tbh.

Breivik would be a more realistic target and a player we should be looking at. Molde had a somewhat poor season this year and a player like Breivik will probably want a move to a bigger club soon.

Che Adams and Angus Gun would be good signing, could easy add another couple scotland players into our squad. Scotlands squad has a mentality which we could benefit from.
Plenty good scottish players around rather than project foreigners

Faf TR, I don't mind the quality players coming in at all but no point what so ever in numerous foreign projects, then we've to add homegrown kids with zero experience to our champions league team..stupid! start buying quality Scottish players and add quality foreign players.

They would both be classed as foreign players I believe since neither has played in Scotland. What we need to do is grab the McGinns amd Hickeys before they go elsewhere.
