I watched Estoril beat Porto a few weeks ago and he was very good.

It’s different when you’re playing on the counter attack though. That’s effectively what they do. They also play a 3-4-3.. he plays on the left of a midfield. So, not sure if the plan is to push him further back. In reality, our left back/right back play so further forward they basically play as LWB/RWB.

I just watched a highlight reel on YouTube and he looked a great passer of the ball but not necessarily pacey? That accurate or what did you make of him? Estoril are playing at 6pm Sunday, I’ll try get a stream for it then and have a look myself

I wouldn't be averse to us going 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 in Scotland a back 4 sometimes is stupid against such a low block

I want a GK and LB this winter, and a loaned CF. A LB we might get, but what about the GK? And of course, they'll be cheap. I hope someone locks the entire board in a small room, and then fills it with the money earned from yesterday. No air.

I have a hunch we will get the left wingback from Portugal and big SVH on a loan to buy.

    Keeper most likely summer.

Painter has retired before anyone asks....

That based on Pierre being at CP? I admit, it's better than nothing.

I do wonder if longer term Rodgers is thinking on going 3-5-2 predominantly. Real possibility Abada goes in January I feel, Palma has been good in fits and starts but could we see something along these lines:

    Hart

    Johnston
    Welsh/Lagerbielke
    CCV
    Scales
    Araujo

    McGregor
    Hatate
    O'Riley

    Kyogo
    Maeda

Rodgers does tend to like 4-3-3 so possibly Araujo acts as competition for Taylor.

If Abada is forcing the move then aye I could see us losing him. But as a club it isn’t in our interests to move him on, yet. Get him performing again in the second half of the season and we could increase his value.

We know we need to cull the squad. But its important to improve as we do:

Nat Philips and Bernie out and first team left back signed.

In midfield, if Turnbull isnt signing the new deal, then punt and also rip up Bernardos loan deam make way for strong DM.

On the wings Forest offers us little now and if Abada is going, then we need a first choice right winger.

And we have players like Yang or Tilio to go out on loan in Scottlish top flight or cut our loses with MJ, but either way trim to make way for a striker.

If we were to push the boat and show some ambition to bring them 4 signs in, potentially spending 20m- 25m. We are getting half off that back on out goings and will leave us set up in the summer for a goalkeeper and couple other targets.

Because come summer we might lose one or two first team starters so we need to lay the groundwork now to build for a position of strengh

How the team looks now compared to the end of the season could be very different, though, as assistant manager Kennedy admitted the Premiership leaders have to trim their bloated squad in January. Without naming names, Kennedy confessed the champions have far too many defenders at their disposal, which will almost certainly see Nat Phillips return to Liverpool in January, while forgotten man Yuki Kobayashi could also be shown the door

It's a position where we have a lot of players. In January, there's probably going to have to be a couple that go and try and get some game time elsewhere and we trim the squad down a bit.

If anything, we're probably carrying a lot of numbers so there will be a lot on the periphery who maybe need to go and get game time or move on, whatever that may be. Everyone will have their own agenda on that

Looked at the squad and I want to be realistic as to who will go and what we can bring in and for what fees.

    OUT
    Seigrist-£250k

    Kobayashi- Loan/£250k
    Phillips- End of Loan
    Bernabei- Loan/£1.5m

Turnbull- £500k(cut price fee with end of contract)
Ideguchi- £500k(performed well in Japan and is being hunted by the bigger teams over there)
    Kwon- Loan
    McCarthy- FREE
    Bernardo- End Loan

    MJ- £1m
    Yang- Loan
    Tilio- Loan
    Abada- £10m(wants to move on)

The Squad would then consist of

    GK
    Hart
    Bain

    Defenders
    Johnstone
    Ralston
    CCV
    Nawrocki
    Scales
    Lagerbielke
    Welsh
    Taylor

    Midfielders
    McGregor
    Hatate
    O’Riley
    Holm
    Iwata

    Attackers
    Kyogo
    Oh
    Palma
    Maeda
    Forrest

That would give us a squad of 20… with the need of adding another 4 players, which would need to be prioritised. For me? That’s a GK, LB, CM, RW/ST.

    Araujo looks likely at £3.5m

Danish boy would fill the RW/ST role perfectly, but they want £7m for him… not sure how likely we are to pay that.

In the January window, I would prefer to see us prioritise a central midfielder with a bit of pace and power. A more box to box option than a defensive midfielder. While I would like us to actively look at that position in the summer, I’d like to see us give Iwata a chance in that role for now. I remember we were linked with the Tunisian boy from Ferencvaros last January, Laidouni was it? He was powerful, quick… could find a pass. He’s exactly what I would like us to find in January. Think we missed the boat with him, though. He moved to Union Berlin permanently in the summer after a successful loan. Think he plays quite a lot for them. Someone like him would be my priority in the midfield, though.

Goalkeeper, Kelleher is an absolute no for me. Looks rank. The guy from Poland who played for Rakow… Kovacevic… he seems perfect. Wouldn’t be against a loan to buy option, though.

CELTIC are prepared to listen to offers for Champions League goal hero Gustaf Lagerbielke in the January window.

A £3million capture from Elfsborg in August, the 23-year-old substitute scored a dramatic late winner in the 2-1 win over Feyenoord in midweek.

Speaking ahead of today’s Premiership clash with Hearts, however, assistant manager John Kennedy acknowledged the need to reduce the number of defenders in a bloated squad.

Emergency loan signing Nat Phillips is expected to return to Liverpool, with Swedish international Lagerbielke and Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi the other candidates to go out in search of first-team action when the transfer window opens on January 1.

‘It’s a position where we have a lot of players,’ said Kennedy. ‘In January, there’s probably going to have to be a couple that, you know, maybe go to get game time elsewhere and trim the squad down a bit.

‘If anything, the squad is probably carrying a lot of numbers, you know, so there will be a lot kind of players on the periphery who we just need to go and get game time, or maybe move on, whatever it may be. Everyone will have their own kind of agenda on that.

‘But you know, when it comes to Celtic, there’s going to be four or five centre-backs in every squad.

‘And, at that point, it’s a case of competing with each other, seeing who can push each other and being ready to step in whenever you’re called upon.’

Stephen Welsh came in from the cold on Wednesday night to start Celtic’s first home win in the Champions League for ten years. Together with Maik Nawrocki, the Scot is expected to provide back-up for the first-choice pairing of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales. ‘Welshy the other night hasn’t featured in a long time,’ added Kennedy.

‘He was unfortunate earlier in the season where he picked up an ankle injury but he’s come in out of nowhere and he did really well.’

Signed as cover in August for an injury crisis, Phillips is expected to return to parent club Liverpool after the table-topping clash with Rangers at Celtic Park on December 30.

Japanese central defender Kobayashi has interest from the J League, while midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi is at the centre of a bidding war after Japanese champions Vissel Kobe joined the club where he is currently on loan, Avispa Fukuoka, in the race to sign him.

With Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers keen to add up to four quality additions to his squad, a £4m deal for former Benfica left-back Tiago Araujo is likely, with Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden also on a list of targets.

I've an absolutely rotten hangover here, but I can't see anything in that where Lagerbielke is even hinted at a move away

Neither do I, at most a loan away. He says 4 or 5 CBS, so CCV, Scales, Lagerbielke, Nawrocki and Welsh. If anything you'd probably just let Scale's contract run down with Nawrocki or Lagerbielke getting half a season loan.
