Mikey Johnston

Should have had another assist today. Skinned his man and put in a superb cross but no takers again. Combined well with his namesake down the flank and feel he's just a goal/assist away from really kicking on. Starting to get regular games and not breaking down which is the biggest thing for him if he's going to make it here.

 

Just struggling the now. Would love to see him kick on but he’s not grabbed the opportunity with both hands while Maeda and Abada have been out, which is disappointing.

 

Never a fan but thought he played well tonight releasing a good few passes at the right time instead of always trying to hold onto it

 

Still think he offers not a lot, did a couple of decent runs 2nd half though, that was a great ball across, but it's like 1 in 20 decent balls.

 

Worked hard and should have had an assist from getting the ball in quickly similar to Sunday but again wasn't finished.
He should do that more and should run off his man more instead of always wanting the ball to feet and to take 6 or 7 touches, maybe this can be coached or learned or maybe we will still be saying this when he's 30 and still done nothing.

 

I thought he was dangerous.

 

Had a decent game last night

He's a home grown player. Probably worth keeping as back for the CL.

 

But for poor finishing (Yang and Oh) and a good save (from Palma last night) he'd have had 3 assists in recent games. He's still creating chances despite looking lacking in confidence and still for me clearly has talent. I'm not giving up on him yet. A goal or a couple of assists and it could all change for him.
Strange the people who know better than Rodgers and Broony (who said he was the most skilfull player in the squad a few years ago) and say he's not good enough for the SPL.

 

There is a valid debate to be had about whether we keep Johnston or not but IMHO there is no debate to be had to say he isn't good enough for the SPL. He is a decent player at that level at the very least. For me the biggest issue with him is his fitness issues because given the huge number of games we play most seasons he would at the least be a very decent player to have in the squad.

 

Tried to pirouette about 3 times last night, lost the ball each time..

I want him make it, but I'm not sure.. maybe needs a couple goals but I feel he's definitely running out of time.. with Maeda and Abada coming back soon and another window approaching, it's now or never for him..

Regardless of your opinion or mine on Johnston that was brilliant absolutely cracked me up reading that.

 

Just always reckon he is in last chance saloon. He is now getting a run in the side and not grabbing the chance, just a few flashes here and there.
Just cannot ever see him being a nailed on starter for us, just way too inconsistent.

 

If he can keep fit, he’s the sort of guy you could see going to a Ross County or a Motherwell (i.e. a low-budget team but who actually tries to play football against the other teams) and doing well in the league.

Same here. Don't think he'll make it, he's just not quite good enough, though will probably do a job at another club. Gets too much stick.

 

You guys are worse than our board.

He's a weasel who shirks the tackle ,has no end product and doesn't do the defensive side very well.

I'm dreading playing them with what we have .

 

Will probably survive yet another transfer window here due to us losing quite a few forwards to Asian cup but by February he'll be gone from squads again and will be away in the summer unless he's injured again.
