The contradiction is in your claim we have the capacity to compete. We don't, and Rodgers keeps trying to polish said jobby.

I just had a gander at the Salernitana - Lazio match summary. They had equal shots to Lazio (13), but managed it with 38% possession. They probably had some luck, but were no worse than Lazio.

Rodgers needs common sense battered into him or needs replaced. And we need a new board.

 

I personally think Rodgers style suits European football but we just don’t have the players to convert decent performances into results.

Without exaggeration we genuinely need 4 or 5 first team players to start getting results, even against bang average teams like Lazio.

This. We have inflated expectations and demand high level tactics and big success with a pish squad. The managers we've had in the last 10 years are like that too, bar Neil Lennon. Deludamol is selling well at CP, not just Ibrox.

 

His style of play is better suited to games in the CL than at home to SPFL dross. A manager that's been where he has in the game, and paid like he will be should be able to adjust his tactics to beat teams sitting with ten men behind the ball. That's more of a concern for me than last night.

Agree he was on a hiding to nothing last night with the players available but a blind guy could see how easy they were getting into space between Bernardo/O'Riley and McGregor.

Just need to hope he's got players in mind for the crucial positions we need filled. GK, LB, DM and striker for now.

 

He doesn't escape criticism...

Full squad or not the positioning of where we are in that group is evident that his so call style being set up better for games like CL is a total myth.

He can shake this one off however as I think the fanbase is largely fair and will give it to him he's only had one transfer window (debate for another day) to get set his marker on the club.

If however we similar results next season there is no excusing the manager

 

We competed in almost every game this campaign albeit the Atletico pumping. A few decent players needed yes granted but that’s on the Board and the penny pinching. Next windows will be telling.

I know that Rodgers comments about the lack of quality are true, but saying that in public is not going to help team morale.

 

He is literally crying out for more quality added but he won't get it. Genuinely don't know why he bothered coming back tbh. False promises I would assume.

 

If there were false promises and they won't give him the money for the players he needs I would respect him if he walked away .
The board been there too long some members for 20 years and that's too long .
We are buying players in the * £2 million bracket that's not going to cut it in the champions League.
We needed 5 or 6 players in the summer in the 6 million bracket to give us a bit of a chance but again the board not interested in going further in the competition and just in it for the money it's * frustrating and depressing at the same time .

 

He can't see the issues because he doesn't want to consider changing tactics or philosophy. He brought a DMF in whom he didn't try in Scotland. Kwon is pish? Ok, doesn't explain why Iwata started no games whatsoever.

What explains everything is his fixation on his own ideas which have formed in England and English budgets at disposal.

 

Still seems to me like he doesn't know his best 11 most weeks. So much chopping and changing, even taking injuries into consideration.

Hopefully January brings something because we seem so disjointed in about 80% of our play. Just seems like we pass it about without any idea where we're going with it, which is made worse without Palma, who at least will try a specualtive shot or produce a bit of quality. Even Turnbull might need to start instead if Holm or Bernardo, for the same reason.

Ah cmon, do you think on re-appointment that Rodgers said go get me Kwon?

Loved Ange as manager but my gut feeling says Yang and Kwon are targets that had been identified under Ange.

Palma, Holm and Nawrocki could have been either Ange or Rodgers. What is strange is when we got a new manager in they usually get a good first window of spending, Christ even Lennon got to push the boat out a bit on Julien - Rodgers doesn't seem to have been given that yet.

The way I see it is we are 3-4 real quality additional to really really competing for a last 16 place. Those 3/4 signings have to come in the £6-£10M bracket though. Even in the heaviest of spending modes say we got 4 players at £10M a piece, we would still have £30M in the bank and that's before whatever this year's profits account for!

I hope the only hold up here is how bloated the squad is (wage bill), shift the deadwood and hopefully Rodgers gets the money he needs to make his mark on this team.

I use this just as an example but surely £10M is enough to secure the services of a gk as good as FF? Ok Forster's wages are probably out the question now but there are keepers at that price we could afford the wages for...

 

Rodgers said multiple times he is the one with the final say on players. So, I assume he was presented with Kwon, and saw a report at least.

We could have had Livaković in theory, but Rodgers probably wants a keeper who can pass. So, that rumor was a non-starter because Livaković does not fit into Rodgers' dreamworld tactics.

 

Back him in the January window? Are we all forgetting just how appalling bad he is in the transfer market?

 

Depends. Ntcham, dembelle, sinclair, eduard where all good signings at a good price. The cheap scatter gun approach and hope is what was a disgrace. Even the same this window. We spent decent on one player. Palma. Guess who is actually the only decent signing? Palma. Shock horror.
