Posted part of this as a reply to someone in the match thread, but I’m going to expand on it and put it in here as well:

We need more than just a LB and GK.
We’ve been kidding ourselves on for ages about fan favourites like A Johnston, etc. We all love them, but they need upgraded for this level. One of him or Ralston, and a better RB ahead of them, should be our 2 options there. Retain Taylor for now, loan or punt Bernabei, and get an actual LB in.

Cancel Bernardo’s loan, punt Kwon and Turnbull, and just finally pay off McCarthy, fs. Buy a DM and a box-to-box mid.

As for the winger situation, if we’re being brutally realistic about benchmarking ourselves at this level, we need 3 permanently out, Yang loaned out, and 3 new ones in. Palma is the only one I would keep for the first team, with Forrest retained as a last-resort. The rest can leave if we want to be a CL team. Abada and Maeda can be improved upon within our budget. We shouldn’t have only one winger who has both technique and end product (and even at that he lacks a bit of pace).

Let Hart see out his deal, same with Bain. Punt Siegrist, and loan Tobi O out. Buy a youngish keeper to be a-prenticed by Hart for the rest of the season, and then get a permanent replacement for Hart to take over mentoring the young guy.

Preferably also add an older striker for an alternative to Oh.

CB situation best it’s been in years. Other priorities atm.

All of that should be easily achievable over the Jan and summer windows, and it could be enough to take us up at least one gear in Europe, to compete for 3rd place.

 

Could be doing with at least half a new starting XI. Goalkeeper, two full backs. CDM and another CM. Another winger as well.

And that’s to go straight into the team. Never mind signing another striker.

 

We'll do very little in January, let's be honest.

We'll spend 3m on a Kouassi type then loan a few others.

We always trot out thie quality over quantity and we always look to come out the window stronger than we went in to it lines and it's simply not true.

We need a GK LB CDM at least to walk in to the starting XI then you can look at strengthening the overall squad with another ST, RB and maybe a winger

 

While this is true, I wish he'd be more demanding of it behind the scenes. Perhaps he is.

I'm not sure going public with it is necessarily good for team morale. He's got to work with these jobbers until at least the new year.

 

He said back in the summer he needed more first team ready players brought in. He wasn’t given them. History repeating itself.

 

Just came to say this, wish he'd stop going on about it like this. Like how he goes on about how huge a challenge the CL is, wish he'd wrap it.

He's putting the pressure on the board - repeatedly now - the risk aversion needs to go.

The support is no longer content with just been marginally better than a poor Rangers side.

We have fortunes in the bank, make us competitive on the park in Europe or clear your desk and leave it to others more competent.

 

At the point I'm just sick of it. We can see we need quality, Stevie Wonder can see we need quality and this is the 2nd or 3rd time Rodgers has said it. Yet..... some of the fans on here are still in denial and the likes of Desmond and Lawell will be reluctant to spend money.

Fantastically run business but a shitely run football team. That's us summed up

9 players in the entire squad I would say are of an adequate level for us in any level of European football. Even then, a few of these are * questionable at the higher end of European leagues (Palma, Abada, Maeda, Johnston all question marks at UCL level).

9 out of 32 (not even counting the ones out on loan either).

That's just simply not acceptable.

23 other players just simply not * good enough to be brutally honest.


Talk of quality in the squad, we practically don't have any.

Sign some players who can pass a ball under pressure.

 

and every * knows 2 or 3 of that 9 will be sold in the summer

Tensions are starting to build now to fever pitch, been trying to hold off on the all out attack on the club regarding recruitment but it's getting to the stage there will be covid season-style uproar if they don't sort it in January.

I don't believe for one second the suits don't care, and I'll always acknowledge the challenges we face in bringing top players here, but they're goanny have to pull something out the bag if they want to avoid a rammy.

At least 3 good players in January leading into another 2 or 3 in the summer, while getting some of the deadwood out the door, will hopefully see things calm down a bit.
