If anyone thinks trophys from Scotland are worthless then why are you watching a Scottish club? If you only want a European trophy then go support man City. They'll have the monopoly on that soon aswel.

Obviously (hopefully) he doesn't think our domestic success is meaningless.

I think he's making the point that in European terms, a Scottish title does very little to lift the profile of a footballing institution like ours, especially when we keep getting utterly dicked in Europe.
    In fact it devalues it.

These constant and continuous embarassments in Europe make our league look weaker every time.
Weaker than it probably is tbh.

That's all very interesting, but you haven't answered the main question: can he play left back?

Cheers for that. Never knew some of the details and makes I.e. self sustaining after Seville run and not wanting to fund out his pocket to bridge gaps in not qualifying for CL. He has Celtic running well and we're comfortable, so grateful in that regard.

That said, there's absolutely no reason that can't continue, with the same success and money making, whilst progressing us to the next level and modernising the club.

For example, we're to reliant on a sole figure head, so when Rodgers left, the whole back room team was ripped out. Ange left, he was in charge of recruitment. If we had a DoF with European experience, that'd bridge the gap of these whole sale changes, which sets us back every few years, essentially resetting back to step 1. The DoF would give us that continuity. Especially if that's our model. Develop and be compensated well.

DoF to link in with BR. Establish a pathway for youth to the first team, or to a level (probably SPFL) so they get the relevant experience to the league and first team football.

Our payment/fees structure needs reviewed. Still paying wages with a cap set from 15yr ago. Paying the same fees for punts that we did 15year ago. Zero progression there, yet boast record profit, sponsorship deals etc. Yet almost every window, need to clear around 8/9 folk that are useless and taking up space and wages. Surely reducing this, spending money on quality, would make us less of a joke in Europe, and get in the groups more often, maybe out the group stages occasionally, would make us more cash, raising our profile whilst attracting better players, coaches sponsorship etc.

So well run off the field, on the field, still on our ways from 2005 with minute progression. Your right, it won't change regardless of what Desmond is in charge, but there is room for progression. If only we had people bold enough to go with it.

Thank you - this is the point I'm making. Looks a bit ridiculous when a team sweeps all before them domestically but hasn't won a home game in the CL for a decade....

'progressing us to the next level'

You see, that's an interesting phrase used by a lot of people but I never really know what that means, specifically. So, if i may ask the question - what do you mean by that, specifically?

For myself it means, a good few things across the board. Simple things that look after fans like a proper ticket exchange for fans at no extra expense. A club museum. The history, stories, footage, legends. There's a whole story to tell. All since 1888. It has the potential to be brilliant. Speaks to a thing the board love. Cash!

Engage with the fans meaningfully. What is our plan for the next 5-10 years. Not birthday messages and statements against the GB. The current status has been in place for around 20 years. If we're looking to upgrade facilities like Barrowfield, have state of the art facilties for all, with a top class coach. Why are we St Johnstone of the CL. There's no joined up thinking there.

Youth set up. Seriously what is the point if we're providing for Aston Villa, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Leeds. Then loan others to lower leagues in Scotland. Then one player who is playing well is constantly over looked. Nobody breaking through from youths to the first team since Cal and Jamesy. Not having Welsh as he's a back up at best. Turnbull was Motherwell product. That's something that needs looked at. We should be looking at having at least 1 player every 5 years make the grade.

We have the stadium, the fans, the manager and few good players, but maybe we need to move away from the current model that's been in place for 20 years. Refresh. But better quality instead of 3 projects. We have better quality, well achieve more in Europe instead of being the pot 4 teams everyone wants for an easy win and photograph at Parkhead.

A director of football to link this all together at all levels. A DoF would protect us a little should a managemsnt team depart. At the moment it's done by business men with short sighted ambition of being the best in Scotland, happy to take scraps from the CL whenever they can. Almost feels like a reset is required every few years when the manager goes.

The next level is being a regular to the champions league and getting out the group stages every few years at least. Producing our own talent for the 1st team.

Of course theirs no guarantees of success, but our current model is seeing being whipping boys in Europe. If your not progressing, then you're regressing. And the 6-0 humpings will become more frequent.

There's absolutely potential there. The board choose not to do these things and seem satisfied with where we are.

A team capable of winning a knockout tie in Europe would be a good start, winning a home game in the cl group stage would be a good second.
Being a consistant last 16 in the europa league minimum for the last 10 years would have been outstanding.
Ffs we couldnt even beat * bodo in the conference league and have a run in that.
Not being eliminated in qualifiers by * like maribor, malmo, ferencvaros and cluj.
The embarrassments against molde and Prague that should never have happened.

    It's not that complex mate

I said the same during Ange's second season, but I don't think things fully change until he's gone.

With 70 million at the bank liquid there is * all reason why the gap at the European level is as large as it is.

If there is an earmarked reason for these funds. Mutton chops should dip his hand in his pockets or walk away.

There is being self sustaining and there is being dangerously frugal.

Hopefully he will just want a payday and sell up.. will fangroups be ready for the opportunity to invest?

He barely engages with the board (hotline to PL)… and has never addressed the support who fund his/the plc’s profits…

… can you really see him coming forward and announcing a 5-year plan’ or similar?
