It really was. As the play broke up field I was worried we would get done for a PK when VAR looked at it but no it was as you say perfect not even VAR on a day when they were working overtime on "honest mistakes" could screw us on that one.

 

Aye, the County crowd were crying for it and chanting 'Cheats cheats' when it wasn't awarded.

 

Tough one for the US team, the RB Sergino Dest got sent off on 39mins with 2 yellows in space of about 5secs. US were 1 up at the time, went on to lose 2-1. Think the US win 4-2 on aggregate tho.

 

As long as CCV came through the game with no issues thats all I care about.

I can't fault him domestically, but he escapes criticism in Europe for me. This season and last I felt he's been suspect at a few goals.

I get that he's still our best defender, but he's another that doesn't really stand up too well in European competitions.

 

For me, he stands up well enough in a team under constant pressure. Not sure what you are expecting.

Is there something specific in his play you feel he could do better?

 

I just don't think he's as good as some people think he is (in Europe). I've seen him out of position quite a lot at this level. For the first goal he was caught sleeping and playing Immobile on. For the second it was mainly Scales' * up but he got done very easily with the dummy.

Again, he's easily our best defender. But it's indicative of our lack of quality when even one of our best players looks average at best in Europe.

 

CCV is our least overhyped player for me. If he left it would likely be 5 - 10 years before we get someone comparable I'd have thought. Could be much longer.

Given how we are pulled about the place in Europe not sure what you are expecting. No one's perfect. I'll definitely agree with that.

 

Agree to disagree. I like the guy, I just see his weaknesses in Europe as well. But he's probably at the bottom of our list of who is to blame for this year's failings.

He got taken out by an unlucky deflection for the first. The second, he gets done by a world-class striker who has all the time in the world because of the mistake by Scales.
