In the brief appearances we saw of him, his playing out from the back really impressed me. It looked to have the potential to really take us up a notch when looking to get forward quickly or even against a packed defence just with some more direct accurate passing.

Scales has performed well above expectations but I expect Nawrocki to become the main CB partner for CCV.

Maybe some game time v Aberdeen after Atletico..

Scales doesn't deserve to be dropped and has done amazingly well, think Nawrocki has so much to offer tho..

I think after champions league games are over we will see more of CCV and Nawrocki.

Rodgers will want to keep Scales and Ccv together just now and let them build a partnership with Champions league games in mind.

Although that will be dependent on performances. If Scales continues the way he has been then Nawrocki may just need to be patient

See being honest since I posted the above I think Scales has gone up a notch. He now looks aerially dominant a lot of the time and is being more adventurous with his passing and doing it well, yeah he had a couple over hit yesterday but the one to Kyogo was a thing of beauty. In addition, he got a couple of efforts blocked yesterday but he had shown in the past he has a decent strike on him too, if teams sit off him I wouldn’t bet against him firing a couple of long distance strikes in.

What makes it more impressive is he is doing it all with Taylor beside him, if you have him a better left back to play beside we could see an even greater improvement.

I actually wouldn’t mind us playing a back three domestically against most teams and using Johnston or Nawrocki as the right sided centre back using wingers as wing backs (Maeda and Yang) as we have seen in recent games we are on the front foot for most of the game. It would give us extra attacking players and the opportunity to include Kyogo and Oh. The only issue is the lack of depth we have in attacking positions.

Think he's fine, BR just prefers a guy who'll be back at Liverpool in a months time over the two players we spent a combined £7m+ on.

Maybe as part of the loan deal, we have to use Phillips in squads if fit..

Him and Lagerbielke not even making squads ahead of a loanee who has looked dodgy so far.

A: either it's part of the loan deal to include him in matchday squads

    Or

B: Rodgers still has premier league-itis and rates the Philips more.

I don't think anyone wants Philips stay extended. So what's the worst that would happen? Liverpool recall him? So *.

I'd send Phillips back during January.

He was needed to cover our heavy injury list.

    His job is done.

I think it's A. Nawrocki is here for the future, so would make no sense not to have him above Phillips.
I imagine if we don't put him in the squad we pay more of his wages. He goes back to Liverpool in January anyway, it was only a half season loan, by which point we have 5 centre backs fit.

Pretty sure there was a story of 1 of the bigger clubs in England charging another club for not playing their loan player last season. Maybe thats how things are done down there now. Any chance for bigger clubs to get richer at the expense of smaller clubs

I'd like to see him given a start soon. I liked the look of him and we've paid good money. Scales has done well but I'd give him a chance.

Given the number of games we have this month and the fact Scales has not been given any rest I think we will see him soon maybe off the bench this weekend?

He looked an upgrade of Starfelt in terms of the his ability with the ball at his feet. Starfelt was an excellent defender though and we didn't see much of that from Nawrocki. Looking forward to seeing how he gets on moving forward. Same goes for Lagerbielke. I know he had a rough start but so did Starfelt. Needs to be given more games.

Phillips being a part of the squad is definitely part of the loan agreement. So, probably see a lot of them both from January when Phillips goes back to Liverpool.

If we drop Scales after a poor ten minutes up against Immobile we’d be sending the wrong message in the dressing room IMO. It’ll be a message of * how well you’ve done, it doesn’t matter.

because this season so far he’s been up in our top 3 players, behind Palma and O’Riley.

And I think it’ll be that because BR does it to both Turnbull and Iwata. But with Scales being a rock for us so far, MotM in big games and important for us building from the back. I think players will grumble and we can’t afford more grumbles around the club just now.

Wouldn’t mind 3 at the back or when CCV gets another wee rest, he’s still struggling visibly at times

Phillips being part of squads is because CB’s keep getting injured, sometimes they appear back on the bench then disappear injured again. Nawrocki not being included in the European squad was a clear sign he won’t be fully back till New Year though. He would have been there if there was a chance of recovery for any of the games, because he was the clear top target this summer, that Rodgers had encountered before and kept an eye on after impressing against Leicester. Mad we had 6 CB’s injured at one point, now we’re piling up the wingers for the physio to get some company.

Liverpool often insert clauses into loan deals where the loaning club gets a cheaper deal if the player is actually playing. If the player doesn’t play a certain number of games then there’s a fee.
