I loved how Kyogo played in the Livingston game once we got a man sent off. He was on the right, and that's where he should be tried more, IMO.

I think the difference there is, if he takes the ball on his right foot on the right side of the pitch, he’s at a disadvantage for coming inside, compared to being right-footed on the left. Obviously, Kyogo’s not going to exactly be hugging the line on either side, but I think in Rodgers’ system, playing on the right, he would become even more disconnected from the play than he currently is in the middle.

On a different but related note, this is the same reason why I and others keep coming back to the importance of signing a left-footed winger for the right side. Rodgers’ system needs the forwards to be narrow in to each other. Obviously that’s easier with opposite-footed wingers (which Rodgers has generally preferred for much of his career).

Cutting inside can be very harmful to the pace of attack. One can still shoot well even if not cutting in to his stronger foo, while having the ability to break past defenders and direct a quick ball across the box.

I certainly think it's worth a try. He's bringing very little to the team at the moment.
I know it was only a pre season friendly but I also think Maeda looked more suited to the striker role in Rodgers system than Kyogo does at present.

I really feel for Kyogo. Rodgers in all his glory is somehow managing to completely nullify Kyogo's strengths. As opposed to playing forward, quickly and letting Kyogo's movement catch defenders out, everything is way too pedestrian. The opposition are back in shape or have large numbers back by the time we get the ball in meaningful places.

Really doesn't look too happy at the moment.

Our style is horrible to watch for the best part and his quick thinking is a waste of time.

absolutely wild that people are blaming Kyogo in here! Our play is far too slow. As soon as our tempo gets quicker Kyogo will get you goals it's simple as that. Just keeping possession in this modern day isn't enough. Teams are a lot fitter, better drilled and much more organized. The game has gone past a possession based tactic IMO

Ange complained at a point last season that the team weren't getting their heads up and finding Kyogo's runs.

It's becoming the same this season. Too many sideways passes and a lack of forward passes.

Rodgers tactics have become stale. He needs to adapt with the game. To be fair, I think he's trying but he needs to make the team pass forward much more.

We all remember Ange going off his nut on the sideline when there was one too many backwards passes. Rodgers needs to do the same.

No one will try and play him through as it’s like if you don’t stick to the plan and pass it more than 5 yards you’ll be dropped. Don’t get to the byline for the low crosses anymore either. If we are crossing it now it has to be floating from corner of the box to ours midgets.

It’s a shame as last 2 seasons he’s looked like the real deal and was. But gameplan doesn’t suit him anymore.

It's like having a high powered car and not being allowed to put it in top gear. We all know the wee man has the talent but the team's curran, slow pedestrian style is preventing us the get the best from him

    Back in shape?

Motherwell camped 10 men along there penalty box for 86 minutes on Saturday as do most teams we play. It's his job to find the space or at the very least get on the ball and create something for himself. He barely touched the ball on Saturday.
Blaming every other player in the squad for his poor performance is taking the hero worshipping of him a bit far is it not.

Good players adjust to different, systems/managers/styles.

Perhaps his failure to do so is on him and maybe explains why he barely gets a look in for his country

Well he needs to adjust his game then. Bcoz continually making the same runs that they are unable to find is no * use to us

He's adjusting too much. Dropping back just so the ball is closer to him got him into a right bother when that Aberdeen CB smashed him. If he hadn't dropped back, that wouldn't have happened.

With our team, the issue is that wingers meddle into the work of midfielders when it's not necessary, and Kyogo also does that. Our midfield does not need help in controlling possession.

You in a bad mood today? It sounds like you've got a miss-placed vendetta here. Kyogo is consistently making moves that our own players aren't noticing - thats not his fault. In fairness, both Palma and Maeda have been making similar runs recently that our midfield are either not noticing in time or choosing not to play that ball.

Kyogo is not the problem. * mental to suggest otherwise.

Mentioned it early on in his tenure, but the lack of overlapping fullbacks is killing our play.

Too many times Palma/Yang get into good positions, with space on the wing, only for Taylor/Ralston/Johnston to be in midfield. I think having proper fullbacks would massively help Kyogo too.

TBF, on Saturday I saw Ralston go up a few times when Yang cut inside, but Yang didn't even think to look for that run with a pass. In theory, players that cut inside could cause issues for the opposition by playing in an onrushing FB, but in practice (not just with us), this doesn't happen all that often, and the defense is able to stall out the attack most of the time.

If the players continually don't spot his run then why does he keep making them?

Surely by now he must realise they aren't going to so he's essentially just running for the sake of it. So he therefore has to change what he's doing.

More likely it is due to Rodgers style and not wanting players to hit those high risk/high reward passes and preferring a more patient, possession based game. The midfielders/defenders are following his instructions by the look of it yet Kyogo is still making runs for passes that the team have been told not to play.

Whatever way you look at it. Kyogo is the one who will have to adjust. That's football, managers have a stye of play that they generally stick too. Players either change to managers way or manager changes the players.

Aw come on man. Everyone of us can see it, even Ange complained last season that the players weren't getting the head up to look whats happening ahead of them.

See being honest I am not entirely convinced this is all down to a change of system. I think there are a few factors at play. One is how deep teams are sitting against us. Teams have sat deep in the past but are literally now sitting 5 across the back with 3 or 4 sitting right in front of that and only one or two trying to get out. Their starting position is so deep that actually Kyogo playing last man or trying to get to cut backs isn’t as easy due to the volume of bodies in there.

Second he makes so many good runs that go unnoticed by our centre backs or centre midfielders. All be it they require accurate low chance of success passes to find him over the top we take too long to even attempt them.

I think what we are missing is good players rather than a system issue. The likes of Hatate with his dribbling and Mooy’s passing range are sorely missing from our current midfield set up. Add in no Jota high volume dribbling to draw players out and no Abada sharp movement at the back post and his knack for getting on the end of things.

Kyogo is a great player but he isn’t a Edouard or Dembele that had the ability to make something happen for himself very often. Similarly O’Riley is a good player but he hasn’t got that Hatate or Rogic type ability to just beat a couple of players and open up space.

There is also a real lack of driving runners in the middle of our team. Neither centre back does it in the way Ajer or VVD could and none of the centre midfielders currently playing really do it either other than Hatate who is injured. Combine that with limited attacking and creative threat from either full back and it’s easy to see why we aren’t creating chances for Kyogo.
