Stewards are like that everywhere though I go to Bradford games and it's 18/19 year old sometimes lassies who are sat at the bottom of the stands to prevent a pitch invader and they're not gonna stop any *

    yeah

If you don't respect should respect those around you.
No need to "protest" by booing.

It's turned into a horrible thing but it's initial purpose is for the 2 great wars that many Scottish, Irish, and people from all walks of life died.

The stadium announcer also made a point of mentioning all current struggles around the world, so they were basically booing armistice in Palestine.

You don't even need to stay silent, just no need to actively boo.

Was it a planned protest yesterday? See the people in group chats trying to argue with me about it calling me scum. Wasn’t even in the stadium!

Mon to *. You know and I know what yesterday stands for. It certainly has fuckall to do with Palestine, and any attempt to try and make it out to be that is pathetic in my opinion. I just don’t go into the ground for it, because I know what’s it’s for.

Think it means different things for different people myself. Just because it's hijacked by brit * doesn't mean it's any less about wanting peace in other wars.

But as we know, it does not just represent the 2 world wars and I felt that I could not stay silent and 'respect' those that have committed atrocities in my Country.

Should I be there again on that day I will refrain from entering til it is done but I hadn't thought that far ahead to be honest.

What is it with the modern world that people of all political stripes feel entitled to tell other people what exactly they (the other people) mean by what they do and say? How did this idea become so accepted in our culture? You don't really think people were booing the idea of an armistice in Palestine and 20 years ago.

Calm down mate, it was only an example. The point is people were specifically asked to respect a silence for all conflicts past and current, fair do's if you don't see it as that but a lot of folk do. I didn't go out of my way to observe it either btw, but actively booing it is stupid imo.

I say this every year. You don’t have to participate in the minutes silence, but there are people in our support who do want to. Personally I don’t think the club should have bothered with it given the predictable reaction. Booing it is crass as * though, especially since it does have personal meaning for others in that stadium. Not everyone is a massive British Army apologist and a lot of people do still associate it with WW1 and WW2 (i.e. what it was originally supposed to symbolise).

It’s not dissimilar to the people who give others pelters for wearing a poppy. Or having a go at Aberdeen for having it on their shirt yesterday. I don’t wear one. That’s my choice, for a multitude of reasons. That doesn’t mean I can berate someone else for making that same choice and choosing to wear one themselves.

There are a lot within our support who are guilty or simplifying politics to a ridiculous extent. It’s tribal almost.

Me personally, I ignore it. I neither respect the day nor deliberately show disrespect. I find the whole day utterly bizarre. It'd be like if we had a day of remembrance for all the people killed by motor vehicles every year (something we arguably should do, given the numbers) and weirdly decided the way to pay our respect to these victims was by having a giant parade of gleaming cars. I don't get why people don't find that weird.

The silence thing I don't have a problem with and could easily get on board with if not for all the rest.

The minute silence has almost lost all meaning due to the performative nonsense in football grounds and elsewhere. Tacky tributes and focusing in on people who choose not to wear a poppy, just to feign outrage or gain 'likes' online. Online outrage has become a currency, and the propaganda surrounding the entire poppy season is derivative of the USA's over the top attitude towards their military.

Are you talking about the poppy here? I agree, it's the biggest lot of * imaginable. Auld * that picked me up in a taxi last night had a big * off poppy on his front grill. I sat in the back out the road to avoid an extremely awkward journey.

Totally different from booing a silence that means something to a lot of fans though. The sensible amongst us again keep out the road so as not to offend, so I don't see the problem in criticising those that intentionally do try to offend. There's no need for it.
