Napkins don't have the same, uhum, connotations if you catch my drift. Few things in life connote so little in that regard as a napkin. Maybe a damp mop or something, but you can't write on that. The Hampden showers thing is one of those images you want to forget but can't. I reckon that's why it stays fresh in people's minds.

Apart from the last sentence, I think I pretty much agree with this. There were other issues with the CL qualifiers, such as not signing folk until we knew if we would qualify, playing teams half way through their season and flying half way across Asia at times. The rest of your post I agree with.

Nothing worth replying to. Plenty to laugh at.

It’s genuinely something you would laugh about if you heard your local pub team appointed a manager like that.

Yep, I'd partially agree with you there. That's largely due to the fact that I wanted someone new at the time and definitely not Lennon. I just think he was the number 1 choice for the board, hence why they didn't review other applications.

The fact you compared us appointing Lennon in the showers to Messi signing on a napkin and used it as a way of justifying how Lawwell conducted his business is very funny indeed. Tragic for a club our size to act in such a tin pot way, but I suppose that’s what you are happy to accept.

I was disappointed when I heard the news, to the point I even jokingly said "Goodbye 10 in a row" in a whatsapp group. :56:

I'm just saying that the shower thing doesn't matter at all. They were appointing him whether it was in the showers or in a meeting the following week. Whether or not it was the right decision is immaterial to where the decision was made.

Off topic, but it’s also falling to bits and in dire need of renovation. Something else that’s been neglected in recent years.

Barrowfield is a big deal and I’m glad they’ve committed to it, but Celtic Park is also something that should be addressed.

The club can’t even be bothered giving it a coat of paint. Crumbling concrete in the stairwells. Toilet doors completely missing. Pathetic food and drink offerings. It’s capable of generating some atmosphere, but for the 21st century it’s a bit of a dump.

It does matter because it’s not how a football club our size, or any size for that matter should conduct business.

Still bemuses me that those * stantions/scaffoldings on the exterior have never been painted. Covered in rust and heavy manky looking.

Also noticed the back of the stadium coming in from Janefield street is totally covered in pigeon *.

Aye because you'd know how a football club should conduct business. :56:

I'd love to see your explanation as to why the showers thing actually matters, other than 'it's wrong because I think it sounds unprofessional'. Should be a good laugh.

We show zero ambition with our signings in a bid to improve in Europe and compete in some games rather than hoping for a draw and not to get absolutely smashed.

Ahh, the old you wouldn’t know how to run a football club, therefore your opinion must be wrong basically. I remember folk used to defend Lawwell by saying “who could we get that is better.” I never saw many begging for him back the last two years however.

It doesn’t just sound unprofessional, it is unprofessional. It’s cool though, cause Messi signed on a napkin. Do you think it’s right to run a football club by not looking at all available managers? That’s not how a football club should be run by the way, whether you agree or not.

It always makes me think of two elephant seals gently caressing each other on the beach in the rain.

    It's not at all actually.

It's indicative of a lack of due diligence and by extension, a lack of professionalism.

It smacks of cronyism and nepotism, with Lawell bombing into the showers to give his buddy the good news. Instead of doing a thorough and extensive examination of his overall suitability for the job, handing a job to his "friend" in the showers after a quick phone call with his boss isn't something which should be happening at a club the size of ours.
Lawell even admitted that no other candidates were even discussed, nevermind looked at, and tipping on into the showers to hand someone such a high profile and lucrative position after a one match victory isn't professional, it's a rush of blood to the head and an emotional reaction to a cup victory, made by 2 men who have never kicked a ball in their puff, instead of a professional decision being made with the advice and assistance from knowledgeable experts to find the absolute best option available.

An "email" immediately after a cup final game would be similarly ridiculous, but Lawell conjuring the image of him standing in a steamy shower room and handing Lennon a SECOND bite at the apple while he stands with his chap out is a poor look for the club.
