We can argue about the guy until we’re blue in the face.

What is undeniable is that under his watch, we have gradually been reduced to complete European cannon fodder.

Our stadium is now a tourist destination and an easy three points for almost anyone, barring a few notable draws.

Our strategy, or lack there of, will soon see us become an absolute irrelevance outside of Scotland, if that’s not already the case.

I couldn’t give a * where Messi’s contract was written. Or how any other club do their business for that matter. I care about how Celtic do things. Appointing a manger in the showers whilst not considering any other options was a * embarrassment. That’s the top and bottom of it. Trying to defend it is even more embarrassing.

The longer he was here, the worse it got in Europe though mate. There can be no denying that. We have been turned into European minnows. This board have no idea how to take us forward. We had guaranteed CL money coming our way, yet we somehow managed to come out the summer window weaker than we went into it. That’s disgraceful in all honesty. It had Lawwell written all over it. I know a lot disagree with that, but we have all seen this movie before. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

He did deliver a lot of domestic success, 100% he did. Fact is though, for a long time in his tenure we had unbelievably weak competition. Dress it up whatever way, but that’s undeniable. We had a free run at getting into the CL every year, and failed on many occasions. I think a lot of them can be pointed at not backing the manager. We went into the most lucrative games woefully unprepared time after time. He held us back massively in my opinion due his shortsightedness. He done a stellar job on convincing a lot of support that we are a tin pot club though, I will say that.

Man City- there's no challenge there. You're either in charge of picking hot prospects who'll probably never make the first team or you have unlimited money to buy whoever you like.

Even the qualifiers Rodgers negotiated in his first spell, he was winning play off games with Saidy Janko and Eoghan O’Connell in his back line.

    Gross negligence year after year.

Generally staying out of the whole debate but surely you’re not comparing Barcelona signing an 11 year old Lionel Messi 25 years ago to appointing a manager in the showers at a club as big as ours?

    Come on, now.

My point is, it really doesn't * matter if he was offered the job in the showers or via email. Folks fixation on it is sad. It's just a dumb distraction they cling on to to criticise the board.

Do you think appointing Neil Lennon was acceptable, at all. Given where the club was.

Giving it to Lennon the second time around was unacceptable, offering it to him in the showers while completely ignoring other candidates was unforgivable.

Aye giving it to Lennon doesn't even need the benefit of hindsight that day after we won the cup walking back from Hampden and getting that need totally killed the atmosphere

I agree it doesn’t matter where or how someone is appointed.

Where we may disagree is that I think it’s negligent and unprofessional to see the pride Lawwell took in declaring that he didn’t review any other applications for the manager vacancy.

This is the CEO of a multi million pound company.

I’m not denying it, he’s a * *. I’m just not writing off the success he did bring to us as some sort of massive accident he somehow oversaw

There are two issues with this way of looking at it:

    1) No one has ever provided any solid evidence that this is actually our goal AFAIK.

    2) The real elephant in the room: even the Huns have a substantially better record than us in Europe over the last decade. Neither of us seem capable of making any impact at all in the CL; but their EL record is a lot better than ours. If we are spending just enough to stay just ahead of them, how does that make sense?

So the fact we appointed Lennon in the showers is fine since Messi signed a contract on a napkin. Ok then.

On point two. We don’t play football pragmatically enough when it comes to Europe. Rangers have no option but to play on the counter because they’re anti football * anyways. That suits them. We try and go toe to toe with almost every single club and we fall short, despite some impressive displays.

Lennon was far more pragmatic in Europe. Which is probably why our most impressive European results lately have been under him. Lazio home and away, springs to mind. However, that same pragmatic approach meant we were rank during the CL qualifiers under him.
