You’re right with the comparison s and ross county made a far better fist of it when they were down to 10 early doors than Celtic did tonight, its fukin embarrassing

The game has changed enormously in the last decade and a half. Also, we don't have a single player of the calibre of Naka or Boruc and no realistic chance of getting one either.

Don’t agree with that mate, we did match lazio at home, Parma scored a really good goal with 10 to go that was a baw hair affside which could easily have been 2-1, and hit with a daft sucker punch at the end, but for the game as a whole we definitely matched them, daft sickening goal to lose at the end but we definitely matched them and were probably the better team for most of it

No, Bayern didn't have reserves out.

Your simple fact is just that... Simple.

A minnow gets lucky once so we should be doing better than them? Football doesn't work like how you think it does.

    I'm with you.

It's @John Bhoy79 who thinks that we didn't match Lazio or Atletico at Celtic Park.

I'm sick hearing about how we don't have the budget to compete. Teams with less money than us consistently do better every year.

Completely get this argument but it also gives the board an easy get out - we shouldn’t necessarily be turning over these teams but we should be showing ambition to try to improve at this level rather than bank the money and accept our fate.

Have to say despite that and with injuries I think we’ve played OK but the glaring issues in certain positions that haven’t been addressed makes it so much harder to take

Shaktar beat Barcelona tonight in a neutral venue, and that’s after losing their 2 best players this season, on the basis of last 2 games last season no one can tell me they’re a better team than Celtic,

We were controlling the game until Maeda went off, yes they were certainly sitting off us but I thought we were playing well again. The Ref has had a howler ruined the game and I'm not going to read too much into this result, yes we still need to improve in certain areas but this was always the case. As for the first goal that all came from Harts ridiculous punch out.

€130m in TV money change that result. €75m in TV money might even change that result dramatically. €35m in TV money might even make tonights result a little less embarassing. £4m in TV money, as we rake in the now doesn’t change anything continental wise, even if we had the reincarnation of Jock Stein in the dugout. Replacing Desmond and Rodgers with the elites in the game won't change anything if there's no money to bring in players to actually have a go in Europe.

Don't know if anybody has made this point. Having Maeda sent off was like having 2 men sent off. The extent of the collapse exposes how much work Maeda does against better opposition. He doesn't have to push that hard domestically - but in Europe his contribution is much more prominent - defending, pressing, causing havoc etc. He's effectively making up for a huge deficiency in the rest of the team in Europe if this is true.

Rodgers has said this pretty much every interview and press conference before our CL games.

It's defeatist right from the off. Sets the tone, I'm not at all surprised at our capitulation today. We've had it happen twice under Rodgers in Europe before.

Exactly we are going backwards in Europe under this current board and we are still buying players at * £2 million and we were doing that 10 years ago and seeing the club getting embarrassed like tonight is not * on and the board needs to back Rogers or * off out the club .

Not being a * but can you please give examples? I was having the same argument (I was agreeing with whagvuiive said) but out with club Brugge last year couldn't think of any examples.

I’m not sure we can read much into the final result when we went down to 10 the way we did. It’s a struggle with 11 away from home against that quality of opposition, never mind having to play 70 minutes with 10.

I don’t think we were going to win the game with 11 on the pitch, but we were passing the ball about well enough. Stupid goal to concede the first one though.

Yet again an utter * of a referee has had a negative impact on us in this competition. First game was the same, and the Lazio game was just as bad with the missed forearm smash to Hatate, combined with near enough every 50/50 going against us. It leaves a sour taste.
