Unfortunately playing ‘the Celtic way’ in today’s football climate will get us nowhere in Europe but will help us sweep all around us domestically

I know this is heresy for some...

I'd prefer a full British league where all SPL clubs were seeded into the English league system with the remainder becoming the Scottish conference.

You'd lose a lot but you'd gain more, I reckon - especially given the money gap which is what's mostly to blame for Celtic performances in the CL.

I think it’s more a case of we work so hard to get up to the level of the opposition that we are absolutely knackered after 40 mins. The 2nd half losses can also be attributed to the fact our bench is very very poor for the CL. We make substitutions but the guys coming on are generally not even good enough for a Celtic SPFL side.

We had 70 minutes of football to play against an excellent team with 10 men. The players were left out to dry, it was already an uphill battle with 11 players.

The bottom line is that our shortcomings in europe have not been because of disparity between us and other clubs financially.

Feyenoord and Lazio we threw it away.

Atletico at home we contested and done well.

Tonight was the first game we were expected to lose due the gulf in class and finances and we shot ourselves in the foot again.

Rodgers record in europe is gradually becoming fairly damning. We continue to leak goals away from home.

Disagree and history proves you wrong. Again, we only use the finances excuse when it suits.

With the right tactics and game plan, we can do well in europe.

WGS went to the last 16 with a team which consistent of predominantly domestic talent and went toe to toe with Milan and we went out by a goal.

Rodgers has to adapt his tactics in europe and we even with a window of poor recruitment, we still have a squad capable of better than what we have seen in this seasons CL campaign.

First time in my life I turned it off after 2-0. First 23 seconds I can remember saying to myself it's 3-1 already. We made 3 real bad stupid mistakes and they made 1 sloppy mistake.
That set the tone for the night for me.
From what i did see, the red was a red, and while there's a mountain of corruption in UEFA/fifa their refs are not out to get us or any other smaller team. Yes bigger clubs will always get the nod over 50-50 tackles etc, but they cannot blatantly cheat like sfa officials.

Agree with most of what’s already been said but having a man down makes a * of a difference at that level.

Frustration when you take the European campaign as a whole is that we never get properly equipped when we have the chance of making some sort of impact in Europe. We can say we’ve played pretty well in most games and not got the points we deserve but when we try and build on that next year we will inevitably sell players and then it’s hard to bring in the quality needed to press on.

I believe Rodgers can do well for us in Europe but if he keeps getting messed around in the transfer window we’ve got no chance

There's no way in * that clash is punishable with a sending off AND missing another match.

    It's weak refereeing.

I'd also argue the studs don't even touch him when you see certain angles.

Dogshit competition we should be no where near

Never a red in a million years unless you pause an
exactly how I feel. But VAR is to blame here, the ref made the correct decision (although harsh) but when a ref gets indicated to check his decision and it’s then slowed down, frozen at contact with the player there’s only one decision incoming. The game is *..and VAR as we’ve seen in the league gives the powers at be the control to decide decisions in favour of certain teams. Proud of the team tonight regardless of result HH

Atletico made €130m on domestic TV rights alone in the 21/22 season. Lazio made €70m on TV rights. Our revenue in 2023 was £120m. How are we seriously going to compete with that? Both in the short term and in the long term it's nearly impossible.

Said this before.it doesnt work against better teams.its not roclet science yet managers cant seem to be able tp accept that.
Imo we should play like Ireland did under charlton, long balls into a big man(oh)and hope for the breaking ball. Not pretty but gets the ball into the danger area and lets face it when it comes ro Europe we dont get the ball into the danger area anywhere near enough times.

Not disputing that. Until we actually invest properly however, the excuse doesn’t cut it. Because we aren’t giving ourselves the best chance to progress. If we had spent serious money in the summer, as we do have it available, and we were coming up short then fair enough. At least we would have gave ourselves the best possible chance. We didn’t though.

That Lazio team is not a good side. Feyenoord aren’t world beaters either by any stretch.

Did someone say "a different board or a different manager doesn't change that result".

    What?

    * seriously?

Rodgers record in the Champions League with three different sides (two of them EPL sides with cash to burn), is absolutely shameful, for a so called "elite" manager. So yes, that result does change.

A different board , not ran by a moustachioed, penny pinching asshat, that doesn't treat every transfer like it might bankrupt the club, that spends ACTUAL * MONEY on competitive players when it has over 75m quid in a bank account... DOES CHANGE THAT * RESULT.

Put the two if them together, and absolutely * everyday of the * week, that EMBARRASSMENT doesn't happen.

The excuse given for that utter disgrace of a transfer window, which we exited weaker than we went in, was "we won't make the CL every year".

    * right we won't. We should, but won't.

This isn't a knee * reaction or an overreaction.

It's time for Desmond to get the * out of this club, and take his Tory Boy board with him.

Look back at our results in continental tournaments the last decade and show me where history proves me wrong.

Comparing Strachan's results 15 years ago when the football landscape looked vastly different to now is pointless.

Last season we had a manager who could very well go on to win the PL this season. We still ended up on two points and no Europe after Christmas even if we had an elite manager in the dugout. Of course money to spend on transfers and wages plays a significant role on our results, both domestic and continental.

But it does matter - you're taking a statistical anomaly and saying we should be competing with them because of it.
