Aye...been asking myself that. Makes no sense if it wasn't to progress the club. He must have sought assurances as well. He didn't have to take the job. Be easy to sit in Majorca being paid in full by Leicester.

Summer window was very very poor. That's not even hindsight.

When we go away from home against this standard of team we need to play more defensive and try and hit on the counter. We need to defend with the low block with players behind the ball

He fills me with absolutely no confidence in Europe. Red card or not we were a shambles, particularly in that second half.

Very reminiscent of the other pumping's we've had under him.

We were excellent last game in Europe, and the prior one we win if we recruited properly in the summer.

We definitely don't lose by more than 3 goals tonight if it's 11 v 11, we were matching them until Maeda went off.

He's obviously not perfect in Europe, his previous record shows that, but it's a bit harsh to say you have no confidence in him. If the board weren't completely negligent in the summer we have 4 points at least in this group, maybe even 6.

Doesn't look engaged at all and result was neither did most of the players. Think he carries a lot of the blame for tonight.

    Completely different from home match.

    It all went wrong tonight..

A * Hart punch and a pishy red card * us..

He has shown up well overall though. Went to Feyenoord and bossed the first half. Outplayed Lazio at home and lost in the dying seconds. Dominated Atletico at home and got a draw against a good side..

6 is never acceptable in isolation but overall he's done as good or better than he should've with what he's had at his disposal..

Said in another post but this game is nowhere near 6 if its 11 v 11.

We were playing good, a bit sloppy for the goal but Maeda was terrorising them and Palma was causing them issues as well.

    So frustrating.

Has he though mate? In the end, we still have 1 point. Games of football are not won and lost in sections of a game. We have to start seeing out the 90 minutes.

Its become the usual with Rodgers. I dont have any faith that he will do any better as he simply doesnt play a more pragmatic style of football away from home.

He is still so one dimensional.

Brendan Rodgers is certain the red-hot Atletico atmosphere influenced the decision to send off Daizen Maeda in Madrid.

The Celtic manager reckons the Japanese forward was "underserving" of a red card for a challenge on Mario Hermoso after just 20 minutes in Spain.

And Rodgers is certain referee Ivan Kruzliak was influenced by the still image of the tackle first presented to him at the pitchside VAR monitor.

"We are clearly very, very disappointed," said Rodgers on TNT Sports. "It was always going to be a challenge for us 11 versus 11 against their quality, but to get the man sent off so early after we made a good start, looked confident and ready to fight for the game...really, really disappointed with the sending off.

I think when you see the images that the referee sees it wasn't representative of the actual challenge, both players sort of clashed feet and kicked each other so for us then to lose a man for that was going to be really really difficult."

Asked whether the atmosphere and manner in which the events unfolded influenced the red card call, Rodgers added: "There is no doubt. I don't want to go on about the officials, I've never been one to go on, you have to accept decisions but there is no doubt.

"It feels more as if it is a computer game, the constant looking at the screen. And like I say when the referee comes over to see the incident it is not a reflection of the actual challenge, it's a still with his foot up which straight away plants the seed for the referee.

"And then from there, his influence is to send the player off.

"These players gave everything. I feel for the players because we were undeserving of the red card but when it comes it's a big challenge."

    I think so aye..

    We've had a patchwork side..

Carter-Vickers missing in Rotterdam and having to be thrown in for minutes at home to Lazio (that was costly). Hatate just finding his groove against Atletico after injury. Palma just getting up to speed really last game..

Some terrible decisions in our games that have been costly..

Our squad is a lot weaker overall than last season and he hasn't had sufficient backing..

You can see the clear patterns of play and identity in all the games before tonight..

With backing I can see him taking us on..

Rodgers is definitely not the problem; but FWIW, I think some of his realism in CL interviews might be a bit counterptoductive when it comes to belief. I prefer Ange in that regard.

Needs financially backed in the next 2 windows but arguably more importantly he has to use that money wisely on quality not quantity.

There’s zero mileage in us having another window of project signings when we need more ready made talent injected into the first 11 instantly in key positions we’ve been crying out for.

I hope he has told the players that dropping the head like they did tonight is completely unacceptable.

We've performed decent enough until tonight tbh so I think its harsh to lay tonight completely with him.

He's never had a full squad to choose from for arguably any week since he's returned yet either.

We still have 1 point, so ultimately the criticism will be there. But he hasn't been helped by a whole load of things conspiring.

If it stays 11 men we don't loose that game anywhere near as heavily, for one. The players and lack of quality/experience at a decent level are also letting him down too.

Ultimately any manager coming in to our club is fighting a losing battle from the get go, in Europe. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

It's misery after misery. Wasn't any better under Ange.

I agree. And for me the onus is on the board/recruitment team there and not actually Rodgers. We all know Lee Congerton couldn't spot a player to save his life but BR doesn't have him as a human shield this time.

If January is as poor a window as the summer was in relative terms we may as well give up on Europe next season.

The shape and approach was fine. We were let down by poor individual moments by experienced players which no manager can compensate for, then we get a red card and it all goes to *.

If we sit back I don't think it does much tonight. Maybe as they're a side who like to counter you but I think we had to approach it with the idea of getting something.

I get that the manager will carry the can for a lot but again, we were only 1 down till about 45 mins and we capitulate and concede 5 in the next 45 if you include stoppage time of the first half.

Our squad can't keep making the same mistakes and saying "we will learn from it". It's a mentality thing for us in Europe or something, * knows what the solution is.

He's been hamstrung by the shambolic transfer window no doubt. Still, I just don't have any belief in Rodgers in Europe. I look at his record across 3 clubs and I see constant failings. I never had faith in him the last time he was here and I don't have it now.

That only changes when we start making real progress. Talk of progression is extremely premature until we start getting results or points on the board. One good half of football from 360 minutes isn't what I'd call progress.

I'll see where we are on MD6 but it wouldn't surprise me if we finished with a worse goal difference and on less points than we did last year. That's in a easier group btw.

If that happens questions need to be asked. There needs to be some accountability from Rodgers for our failings in the CL this year. Every game there's excuses for him, usually the signings we have or haven't made. I'm tired of hearing about it even though I was one of the most vocal on here about just how poor we were in the Summer.

There will be accountability as he's the manager and will no doubt take it but I don't see how he could have helped a lot of moments that have caused us to lose or drop points in this group.

What can he do about Lagerbielke and Holm having brain farts and showing their inexperience (and in the same instance why we shouldn't be overloading our team with projects) away to feyenoord? What can he do about the maeda red tonight? Mcgregors poor clearance and before that Hart nor catching a ball completely unopposed?

These are moments that seem to follow us in Europe and happened under ange too. Yet there wasn't the same clamour for him to come out and take accountability.

There's definitely still an element of our support looking for anything that can be thrown at Rodgers tbh.

The quality of the squad is the biggest concern for me it isn't the manager. Rodgers has the tactical ability to get us results but is being held back by the players at his disposal.
