He isn’t someone that I had noticed before but looks a good player, has a cracking left foot on him and looks to have that Abada-esq ability to arrive at the right time and find space.

The videos I watched didn’t show much of his dribbling but he did work some good quick combinations with team mates to create chances and shooting opportunities.

There are a few interesting J league players Makoto Mitsuta, Sanfrecce Hiroshima was touted for big things as the next Mitoma but had a bad injury, he is now back playing but his team don’t really play a system that suits him. He has good pace, great close control and change of direction, great vision and a cracking right foot.

There are a few box to box midfield players that look good Fc Tokoyo’s Kuryu Matsuki, Urawa Reds, Atsuki Ito and although he’s left J1 Ao Tanaka is still playing Bundesliga 2 but it was said in Summer he wanted a move in the summer and was available for €3m as his contract is running down.

Overall the J league has served us well with only Ideguchi (injuries) and Kobayashi (free punt) being failures. Iwata hasn’t really had a chance as he plays the same position as McGregor.

Still quality signings, you are moving the goal posts to suit.

Ao Tanaka is fantastic, but he'd be one more Asian Cup-bound player. Moriyasu has him as pretty much a first pick in midfield.

Moving goal posts? It isn’t a literal statement that we have never signed quality in January, its nearly impossible though. There are very few exceptions and they normally involve a contract ending and coming in early, their league being over or them being in our league.

Mate it’s 2023 and you’ve had to go back to 2008 to find permanent signings.

If you want a Bellamy or Keane for 5 months now then we have very different ambitions for the football club. Same goes for whether you can find a Robson or Armstrong from the SPFL who will walk into our team in this day and age. There’s a handful who would be good squad players but not the quality Rodgers suggested.

Transfers are far different than they were in 2008.

    You’ve absolutely solidified my point.

One of the biggest things I want to see is just ruthlessness with the absolute clutter in our squad.

Siegrist, Phillips, Kobayashi, Bernabei, McCarthy, Turnbull, Forrest, Johnston. Just clear the decks.

I am so tired of saying x might do a turn. They won't.

    Because there is no debate.

It’s a fact that it extremely difficult to get quality in January, for any team. Your options are so limited. Just look at our history, look at the names you threw out.

Last year, Johnston. His season was over. Easier to target these leagues.

22’ - O’Riley and Hatate. Hatate season over, O’Riley a good buy in a difficult market.

    21’ - Nothing

    20’ - Nothing

19’ - Weah possibly. A loan. Doesn’t improve the team.

    18’ - Nothing

    17’ - Nothing

16’ - Sviatchenko. Danish league has a winter break and they have time to find replacement. Paddy Roberts on 18 Month loan, something we could take advantage of.

15’ - Armstrong. Easier to buy in our own league but who is currently the “quality” we’d buy?

14’ - Johansen. League ended. Griffiths. Scottish and dying to come here. Who fills that quota now?

13’ - Rogic. Project at the time.

12’ - Lustig. Bosman, league over.

11’ - Commons. A market we successfully targeted 3 times in 10 years in Winter.

I could go on and on. Scandanavian Leagues and Asian Leagues that have finished. Bosmans. Loans. SPFL. English Leagues rarely. That’s really been it. Yet people will * like * when we don’t have our starting GK, LB and the rest of the needs.

You won’t debate it because there is none.

Ideally want players with some experience of European competition.

Right ok, but you did reply to my post initially. You’re allowed to admit you were wrong.

It'll mostly be players getting shipped out in January, I think. I reckon we'll see the following leave either on loan or permanently:

Kobayashi, Phillips, Lagerbielke, Tilio, Kwon, Johnstone, McCarthy

Lagerbielke I think will go on loan. I also think Bernabei will leave if we can sign a left back (which we should), and hopefully get Siegrist out the door too.

Kobayashi, Phillips and Lagerbielke won’t be going. Probably just Yuki. Reckon Nat gets extended for depth.

Yuki is a cert to leave, and I'll be very surprised if we extend Phillips' deal. He was signed because we had CCV and Nawrocki out, and didn't know yet how much we could rely on Scales. If he stays we have CCV, Nawrocki, Scales, Lagerbielke, Welsh and Phillips. Far too many. We need 4, in truth, which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see Lagerbielke go out on loan and we keep Welsh as a homegrown 4th choice.

Keep forgetting about Welsh. One of them will stay, probably Lagerbielke.

As per my last post mate. You are effectively debating yourself at this stage.

The difficulty with that in January is they will likely be mid-season and probably still involved in European competition.. when we will likely be out..

We probably need to look at other markets but for established players..

So, I'm expecting to be disappointed again..

I’m expecting nothing of note to happen in all honesty. Might get a couple out, with maybe another few projects in. Bad time to buy as well. It won’t be until next summer we see any real deals of note, if we ever.
