It always worries me when people throw all rules together in one bag as "The Rule Book" as if Moses brought it down with him from Mount Sinai. Different rules have different levels of legitimacy. At one extreme, there are rules against behaviour that endangers other fans, they are clearly legitimate; at the other, there are rules to try to stifle legitimate political expression, such as Palestinian flags*. In between, there are a whole bunch of rules that might be legitimate but should be questioned.

* What gives me the right to decide that these rules are illegitimate? Nothing. The board itself has clearly shown that they are illegitimate by allowing and even encouraging equivalent political expression on other issues.

 

I was at Feyenoord, how the * do they know the boys involved with the pyrp were GB members? They had balaclavas on before and disappeared down the tunnel. Also there were no seats just a big section.

 

Lawwell and the board in general have made a * of plenty of things over the years, but I've always taken that quote about giving the GB rope to hang themself with a huge pinch of salt, I think the reality is if they actually wanted the GB gone and have done for years, then they simply would be, if not banned outright then easily have them dispersed to different areas of the stadium, not given pride of place in the standing section and allowed to inscrease their presence in it over time, they're in a more priviledged position than most of the support, that doesn't seem like a group being targeted or kept down by the people in charge in any genuine way like some insist they are.

It might well be true, but still we don't really see any action against them unless there's pressure from outside that the board can't ignore, because of UEFA fines, some of which are admitedly ridiculous, or * like pyro that they know is banned, or people moving around and overcrowding the section that causes safety issues with the police/council.

 

Seems very easy and convenient to lump all of it at the feet of the GB.

 

At the end of the day, the GB are customers to the PLC. They are also valuable to the PLC as it allows them to make money through merchandise that have come off the back of the GB. “Give them enough rope to hang themselves” can only really mean one thing though.

 

I wasn't questioning what the quote meant. It's over a decade old though, if the board/Lawwell really were actively trying to get rid of the GB they've had plenty of time and opportunity to do it, and certainly not give them a bigger allocation over time, so no I don't think there is any agenda working against them from inside the club, the only time anything happens with them is when the club have to cover their own arses because of outside pressure.

The rest are sheep who go along with anything to fit in. It’s always the way with these things… they rely on impressionable naive people who will not question things, just wave their little token flags.

A lot of the people pushing this crap are bullies themselves, forcing their views down everyone else’s throat and trying to set an agenda for the entire football club. Funny how these same people whinge and virtue signal about fascism and oppression etc.

And these people really should gain a bit more knowledge about the conflict they’re involving themselves (and our football club) in. Particularly all the jihad and sharia law loving islamofacists in the Muslim world, who are playing a huge role in actively preventing the Palestinian people from ever brokering peace with their neighbours!

But no, of course not. Why would they want to entertain any such nuance or complexity when bare naked knuckle dragging tribalism is far more appealing to these people….

Just like we witnessed in NI, these fools never have the answers. Tribalism is the problem not the answer.

Maybe not, but they're happy to use them.

 

Check how often the GB section are used in montages of fans on official media/social media - we've also seen an uptake in day-trippers to see the standing section/GB atmosphere too.

Barcelona TIFO, Lisbon Lions 50th celebration TIFO and the awards it got - there's a huge marketing incentive they get off this indirectly.

It doesn't make them untouchable of course but I don't see why this couldn't have been resolved other ways through dialogue, rather than this indeterminate ban.

I'm not supporting the ban, I just don't think the financial impact is as big as some would have you believe.

 

So is the standing section just going to be empty until further notice?

Or will the club resell the tickets?

 

For all the GB members, not trying to be a smart *, but if you feel strongly about what Israel is doing to the Palestinian people in Gaza, why not use your skills to go over to Gaza and help them rebuild Gaza using the money saved during the ban.

Directly the financial impact is probably small but indirectly I think the impact is much larger but difficult to quantify in £ terms.

They're a huge part of the matchday experience and our exposure in the media. The initial 'match the fine for Palestine' literally became global news - who knows what the financial impact of this was but I dare say a few supporters/merchandise purchasers were gained in the process.

 

Have read the superscoreboard article, and for it to say that the GB have been banned for safety reasons and not the Palestinian support is just ridiculous. Otherwise this would have happened a long time ago.

We’ve had Palestinian flags displayed at Celtic park for a long time.

I definitely don’t agree with everything GB do or say but the support of Palestine is right. We showed support for Ukraine and this situation, although different, has many similarities. The club made it acceptable by showing support to Ukraine in my opinion.
