Not even going to look at this thread again until after the window closes. Not getting myself invested like I was in the Summer. Board will do the bare minimum if we are lucky. Also the Winter window is harder to do business in than the Summer one. We likely won't have any European football to offer anyone either.

Problem with summer is everyone is looking to improve so you face loads of competition.

Almost as if it's not an easy thing to entice quality to Scotland.

Almost like its an easy excuse to say that. I could literally name numerous examples of quality that we’ve signed in the last 10 years.

Yep, the ones we got over the line thankfully. Which will not always be the case.

Nothings easy in football but we have 70m in the bank and football players are all money motivated.

Doesn’t mean we stop trying because Zinkernagel would rather go to Watford or Souza would rather go to Sheffield.

True but Summer is night and day compared to Winter in terms of being able to improve.

Who said we've stopped trying though? Do you honestly believe the club are not interested in bringing quality footballers to Celtic Park?

Well we’ve needed a proper CDM for * knows how long, got heavily linked with Souza and ended up going to the second tier of Korean football for Kwon whilst there is 70m in the bank :56:

So we did try to bring in quality. Who clearly decided he'd be better off elsewhere. So now we are aff it?

Also, why does it mean we stop trying to bring in young players with potential? Obviously Kwon hasn't and probably won't be a success here, so does that mean we never try it again?

The club literally cannot win with a lot of people man :giggle1:

I get the point of January being a difficult window, but I'd still be disappointed if we leave it having not got a LB and ST sorted.

Summer is where I see us bringing in a Winger, GK and replacements for whoever leaves.

    January window as follows :-
    1) New first choice goalkeeper to bed in under Hart
    2) New first choice LB, too many teams in Europe/League target Taylor’s position for it to be a coincidence
    3) Striker, even a decent loan to cover Asian Cup players we’ll be losing next year

Striker & Right winger are vital for us to win the league. Then a goalkeeper & left back needed by the start of next season

Exact same problems as we’ve all been crying out for, for long enough now.

Proper competition in the sticks, proper competition at left back, proper competition up top. All 3 need take the form of actual quality and not ‘projects’.

Then when we’ve cleared the decks, which is the most important part, we can start to look at replacing volume with players that have different attributes. We could easily lose 4 centre mids and bring in a more defensive and powerful option to play there. We could also easily now lose 3 centre halves and it wouldn’t make an iota of difference as you’d still have CCV, Scales, Lagerbielke and Nawrocki.

See in terms of signings and the winter being more difficult than the summer that is the case for a lot of leagues but there are leagues where we have picked up good players that play Summer football so are now at an end.

We got Johnston from the MLS last year and there is a good left full back who happens to be out of contract and wanting back to Europe this Winter in Kai Wagner.

There are also other good players that play in MLS who we could attract.

There is the J League where there are good players available particularly from midfield forward again with their contracts and value for money being available.

There is also the Norwegian and Swedish leagues where we have picked up good players from in the past.

Then there is South America where we haven’t done as well so far but plenty of good players from there.

Not to mention all the good players stockpiled in big leagues not getting enough game time and those on expiring deals whose club may be looking to get something for them rather than lose them for nothing.

It’s the recruitment teams job to get the job done and identify the right ones to bring in that fit what Brendan wants. If that’s an athletic left full back, a energetic tricky winger, powerful striker or whatever profile he thinks we need to fit his system.

I was wondering about Yan Marheus at Marino's, 16 assists and 6 goals this season. Contract is up but Celtic may prefer a striker who can play on the wing to cover the AFC Cup.
