Same guy probably doesn't want us to have anti fascist flags because we get fined for those as well.

How UEFA can fine someone for being anti fascist is baffling

 

The fact that he can use Twitter doesn't mean he doesn't get his worldview from western MSM. Mind you, though, you're probably right. He's literally connecting the Palestinian flag with Islam [sic] Ideology. He's not getting that from the BBC.

I honestly give up trying to make sense of this world anymore.

 

Its not even the fact we were fined for it. If UEFA genuinely kept all politics away from football I could understand it. I would still stand against them but at least they would be consistent.

But they bring politics into football all the time.

It's not keep politics out of football. It's keep politics we don't agree with out of football.

Thanks for the correction. It was a stupid take. YouTube is currently recommending Wolfe Tones songs for me (because I was listening to Celtic Symphony before and after the CL game) and I realised they would fit my stereotype too. It was just lazy thinking.

In case anyone doesn't know what I've been waffling about. We've been fined 20k by UEFA for the Anti Fascist display against the Lazio scum.

 

There's more than £20k down the back of Desmond's couch FFS a pathetic fine for a pathetic "crime". * Uefa.

 

Another one incoming for the other night as well no doubt. We have spent money on far worse things however. Barkas and Ajeti for a kickoff.

 

Take the knee, show racism the red card, back Ukraine, memorial for Mandela. All worthy causes endorsed by UEFA.

Anti fascism? Here's a 20k fine.

The hypocrisy is shameful.

 

Off topic, but it's weird how the anti-racism stuff is so pushed in such a negative, punitive way in England. Out of the countries I've lived in (Scotland, England, Spain, China and Indonesia), England is easily the least racist*. I suppose it could be argued that it's just because I've lived in Sheffield and Manchester rather than, say, Bolton; but the figures back that up (albeit that they are UK figures not just England): the UK is not a society like France or the US with massive racial segregation.

Which is not to say that a little bit of occasional racism is not a big deal or that we should stop things like "Show racism the red card", I just think it would be a more effective strategy if there were also a lot more acknowledgement of how much has been achieved.

Even just thinking about it as a teacher, positive feedback is probably even more important than negative.

* I imagine Scotland is really just as good as England in this regard; but I haven't lived in Scotland since 2000 so I can only compare England now with Scotland a quarter of a century ago.

 

If politics and football should never mix then why were the players all wearing black armbands on Wednesday night ?

 

I'm going to be cynical and suggest that we have UEFA's permission to show our sadness for the dead of both sides. How gracious of them. We're just not allowed to express any opinion regarding the causes, responsibility or justice of the situation. UEFA will let us know what sides to support thank you very much <insert Ukrainian flag>.

 

What do they give as the reason for the fine though? We have multiple national flags at games anyway. Had Irish tricolours, Japanese, Korean, Aussie flags etc at majority of games but Palestine is excluded?
