Look at Nicholson's previous job - Company Secretary - thats admin, corporate governance stuff, he was really just a Stepford wife kind appointment, malleable, compliant, happy to follow instructions. DD tried out someone who was clearly his own man (that guy McKay), decided after a few weeks he didn't like it and defaulted back to what he knew (Liewell & co)

 

I long for the day this * is out the door for ever with DD and someone interested in taking us forward football wise takes over..

 

Thing I don't get is .......if the board are after the GB wouldn't they just stop them altogether by totally disbanding them in the ground? If it was their intent they could set about identifying all the people who have those seats and reallocating them to other fans. I think that there's too much of a symbiotic relationship there for them to really have that intent.

We all act like we know what the board are thinking/doing and what their motives are; but probably they are just doing their jobs: maximising shareholder value. I was absolutely sure they would stop the display last night; but I was totally wrong, they didn't. It seems plausible that they decided a sea of Palestinian flags at a time when several thousand Gazan civilians have been killed is probably not harmful for the business while pyro that might be deemed a breach of safety regulations and an ambiguous banner that could be interpreted by some as support for HAMAS on the day of their terror attack might well be.

Maybe we don't have to complicate it more than that. We don't really know much about their own personal opinions on the GB (with the exception of Lawwell). The same board that was so fanatically against certain kinds of coordinated movement in the stands pioneered the introduction of safe standing in the UK; we don't have to agree with them (I don't) to take them at their word that it really was about Health and Safety for them rather than a vendetta.

I find it bizarre as a guy with an ego like his and his highly placed positions in European football that he'd be embarrassed how a team under his ownership is performing when he goes off to these uefa/FIFA meetings.

 

Totally. I mentioned something similar on the match thread. Surely Lawwell and the rest of the board must get embarrassed in the company of other club's board members who run their club properly. They must know that they all rub their hands in glee when they are paired up with us when the draws are made and laugh like * behind their backs at their pre match buffets

 

To him, they run it impeccably.

Dividends to the shareholders is the only metric they use. You need a bit of domestic success to achieve that.

Trust me, if we could get away with delivering a substantial profit without challenging for any trophies, it would already be happening.

 

This is one I definitely got wrong.

When Lawell came back I honestly thought, and said as much, that this was a "ceremonial" position. DD looking after his pet.

It's obvious, to me at least, I was entirely wrong. Everything about this club reeks of his influence at the moment.
As one poster said, Nicholsen has literally fell off the map since his return.
And as another said , the last window had Lawells signature all * over it.
