Tomoki Iwata

Couple of players (O'Riley and Hart, I think) have mentioned him in their Instagram posts today, congratulating him for his goal.

Get the feeling he's well liked by the players.

Had a look at Iwata's instagram after reading this, he replied to Greg Taylor calling him his "English teacher" which, if that's the case, * help him

 

Well, Greg is proud of Scots (he did a video with AJ), so he probably skipped standard English when teaching Tomoki.
Imagine Tomoki guessing the meaning of some of the expressions from the AJ video...

Yeah but who do we drop? Can't drop Calmac and no chance ya can drop MOR on his form.. Hatate? Hasn't hit top form yet this season but can't see him being dropped.

 

He's been here a while now so Im not sure it's time he needs. Talking to someone else about this, do we not play him in the league but play him in the CL?

Exactly. He's not an upgrade on any of the players in the middle and needs to show a lot more than a cameo.

 

We could do a diamond midfield and bench Palma, given we'll need to defend a lot.

 

Just something about him I really like, one of those players you just know could be huge for us. Just ashame he needs to bide his time cause O’Reilly and Hatate are so * good. Maybe time to give Calmac a rest now and then.

 

Brings a physicality to the side we lack at times. Not scared to run about and body *, tidy on the ball as well.

 

Really like him, reminds me a lot of AJ, looks really commited to the cause, mobile and physical and when on the field has rarely had a bad game.

Seems to really enjoy his football too, whether it's on the field or in the training pics I've seen, he's usually got a massive, infectious grin on his face.

 

You don't win POTY in any league if you don't have something about you, it's gone against him a bit that we don't really need to play with a DM domestically but I think he is a lot more rounded player than that, got a decent range of passing and took his goal really well. Said it last season that in europe now he should be starting beside calmac to give us a bit more strength and box-to-box energy in the middle, but he's just not been getting the minutes to drop him in to CL games and expect him to perform now, he needs to be playing more.

 

Aside from his excellent goal, he brought an energy when introduced, the way he chased down opponents, biting at their heels.
Actually reckon, especially away in Europe, we should play him in a 4 man midfield, with Maeda and Kyogo up front.

 

Will be a good midfield replacement when hatate and O’reilly inevitably leave this year

don't think we will but I watched Atletico v Celta Vigo and Griezmann will score another hatrick if we don't try and do something about him. McGregor not good enough to mark players out the game but I really think Iwata could do it in a diamond formation. I just don't think BR will do it though so it will be Calmac, Hatate and O'riley and I just think Griezmann will tear us apart.

Iwata is some player though just unfortunate for him it's Calmac who is ahead of him - same could be said for Oh who has Kyogo in front of him.
