Spot on. There are civilians on the ground in Isreal just as opposed to Israeli aggression as the rest of us.

As usual, the powers that be give the orders and sit safe in their reinforced bunkers while innocent people perish on both sides.

Just so happens that the death toll is at least 10 (dead Palestinians) to 1 (dead Israeli). [that is a complete guess btw. No data checked but can't be far off]

I'm not trying to trivialise the morality of what goes on but I am definitely criticising Western governments/media putting a "poor Israel" slant on this. Like the war started 6 days ago.

    Duplicitous *.

    Free Palestine.

    I hope so to mate.

I've got family in the US. I would be worried sick if they were under attack. Doesn't diminish my hatred for American foreign policy though.

To be fair, what Rodgers did isn't really comparable. It took me 5 minutes to decide to give him the chance to earn forgiveness. If he were to come out and try to justify this war, I'd want him gone.

If you go on the Bitton thread, you'll see me defending Bitton and asking people to leave him alone. I don't want Abada to go, I'd love him to stay, although I think he will choose to go.

I think I came across wrong, I was just trying to say that how good a footballer he is IMHO has no bearing. He could be Maradonna, Eusabio and Pele all rolled into one and I think it would be irrelevant.

Hence why I said to a much lesser extent.

I get that, mate; I just think a quantitative difference that big might as well be a qualitative difference for all practical purposes. I don't think they belong in the same bucket.

The bolded is where I disagree. There are a few hardliners on certain issues in any support, but I can’t think of any incidents of players being shunned by their supporters despite turning in world-class levels of performance - and plenty of those issues will be far less messy and convoluted than a multi-decade old conflict rooted in sectarianism from both sides.

Ultimately, none of it relates to my perception or understanding of this conflict.

*despite turning in world class levels of performances. I’m talking about a ‘club icon’ situation where a legendary figure is playing in his prime - Henrik probably being the perfect example.

McCleans abuse has been well documented on here and things do appear to have come full circle now, with football fans beginning to realise how unacceptable it is, and always was.

You can see an example of much of that below from r/soccer:

Can’t share the link here for some reason, but it’s a discussion on Reddit about an Article in the Athletic titled “the footballer who suffers more abuse than any player in England”.

    @King of Kings

I will say though mate. Although McClean isn't world class, the point still stands. He gets terrible abuse from his own clubs support for his political views.

I hope that doesn't happen to Abada though. Shame if it does because the lad has bags of potential. If he does feel the need to leave then I understand.

I think for Israeli's themselves you have to factor in the personal angle for them. It's not all politics it's concern for people you grew up with, lived with and loved all your life.

I live in the UK and * despise our government and their foreign policy but if Spain attacked Plymouth I would be conflicted as I have family there. Does that make sense?

Fair enough, I think I got my wires crossed anyway. I didn't realise he was getting abuse. I thought we were talking about him wanting to leave because of the display. My views on any abuse he is getting are the same as my views on the abuse towards Bitton.

Sure, the kind of people who translate support for Palestine into abuse for an Israeli footballer probably wouldn't do that if he was as good as Larsson. I think I'll concede that. Abada has said nothing wrong as far as I can see.

Support for the people of Palestine is another matter, but I imagine you might agree with me on that.

Completely disagree with this. I fear we are getting a bit off topic as I don't keep up with anything Abada has said on the situation so I am absolutely not criticising him at all. If however an "Israeli/Jewish version of Henrik Larsson" made the same comments Bitton has made I am convinced the same people that have criticised Bitton and his views would have criticised a ""Israeli/Jewish version of Henrik Larsson" in the same manner.

You yourself made a good point about the propaganda system many years ago. I think it was children signing bombs or something and you asked what chance they had. In a similar way, I know some older people who are good, kind people, who are convinced that the British empire was something to be proud of.

I think Di Canio would get some treatment if he stepped foot in Celtic Park again.

Good memory mate I remember that.

Israeli children writing 'with love from Israel' or similar, on bombs before they were attached to warplanes and dropped on the West Bank.

You can't erase that upbringing. You should be able to grow out of it though.

Aye right then. Bolt ya clown. He doesn't need to go anywhere. Just needs to do his rehab, build his fitness back up and help us win the league.
