He actually thinks we can still qualify, a man clinging to his job and reality by the sounds of it.

The fans voted with their feet last night, the only thing those FAI * understand..

Failed experiment that needs ended now

They extended his contract at one point, once you do that it stops being an experiment for me. I think he was kept on as he was cheap. His win rate in competitive matches is 18.5% which is poor

Yeah Of course he was the cheap option, everything about the FAI is cheap unless you're one of the suits. They were also broke as *. 18.5% wow.. poor is an understatement mate that's probably one of the worst percentages for any working manager for club or country in the world.. he makes Beale look like competent

Both Liam Scales and Mikey Johnston in from the start today. Good news for Johnston in particular who could do with the start to help him with his match sharpness.

Ireland need to lose to have a chance of qualifying.
This will happen through Nations League play offs.
If they draw or win then they will be out

They CAN still qualify but only if they LOSE to Netherlands.
It’s because of their position in Nations League.
If they draw or win then they are out because their ranking will change but if they lose then Netherlands ranking will change meaning Ireland can enter Nations League play offs.
There are currently 3 Nations League spots available for Euro 2024 qualification.

UEFA probably never thought about that scenario.

It is mad for sure. But lets face it I don't think this Ireland team will have any problem losing to the Dutch next month without any need to fix the game especially since the Dutch need to win to ensure their own qualification for the Euro Finals next summer.

On a more positive note it was nice to see Mikey Johnston play most of the game and look good as well as getting himself a goal. Can only do his match sharpness, confidence and fitness good which given the heavy load of big games we have coming up is good for us too. Liam Scales played most of the game again at center back and played well albeit obviously against limited opposition to put it mildly but nonetheless Scales playing his first 2 internationals in this window can only have boosted his confidence levels as well.

Wow... so a team thats only beaten Gibraltar twice have a chance to still quality if they lose again.. farcical. My little interest in international football just faded even more.

Bring on Sunday, proper football is back

There are currently 5 other teams that are in same position as Ireland.
Can’t qualify directly but can possibly qualify through Nations League play offs

    Sweden
    Azerbaijan
    Bulgaria
    Faroes
    Norway

There are another 6 teams who will be in play offs but not sure yet who they are

Lets face it, Kenny will still blow the playoff lol..I literally have no motivation with him at the helm.

Well if by some miracle we did get a playoff spot we would likely be away so highly unlikely we would do anything unless we got very lucky with the draw. Most likely we will see Kenny just not offered a new contract come the end of next months international window and the close of the euro qualifying groups.

Unless I am missing something I think this Ireland need to LOSE thing is just click bait. The Netherlands are definitely coming second in the group even if Ireland win over there which we won't.

I have seen it a few times but in each article it then says it would be "beneficial" for Ireland to lose to The Netherlands and the articles were written before Greece and The Netherlands had played.

The Netherlands are currently ahead of Greece as they have a better H2H having beaten them twice.

Greece have one game left against France. The Netherlands have both Ireland and Gibraltar to play so the only way for Greece to come second and push The Netherlands into the playoffs is for Greece to beat France and for The Netherlands to fail to beat both Ireland AND Gibraltar.

Former Celtic and Hibernian manager Neil Lennon, 52, has emerged as a surprise favourite to replace Stephen Kenny as Republic of Ireland boss.

    I'd be happy with that.

The talk sport article from yesterday shows how it needs to happen.
Ireland can reach play offs ONLY if they lose to Netherlands because of ranking position.
