The fact that Celts against anti semitism account was also created this month tells its own story.

Exactly what I'd would say too.. its also not like the GB just started flying Palestinian flags but maybe the flags would of been enough for Saturday, no banners needed

I actually don't mind the banner; I just think the statement they released should have included a clarification. I would have hoped to see something like the following:

The Green Brigade as a group stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine in their struggle against brutal oppression and for basic human rights. Some of our members also affirm the legitimacy of violent resitance against a foreign military, which is what "Victory to the resistance!" refers to. However the Green Brigade would also like to make clear that it in no way intended to endorse the deliberate slaughter of hundreds of civilians nor does it accept the legitimacy of these actions.

    Something like that or better.

What does matter is if it puts sponsors off of giving us money or players joining us. You can say if they don't like us they can * off but if players or companies don't want to be associated with extreme politics it hurts us in the long term.

To be fair, is supporting people suffering horribly under a blockade and crammed into a tiny area with no prospects in Gaza and treated like sub-humans by a foreign occupier in the West Bank and subject to brutal violence in both areas really an extreme political position?

How much money we bring in from sponsorship is several orders of magnitude less important than what these people are and have been going through.

Has it hurt us before? We have sang songs for decades about a group widely considered as a terrorist organisation.

There’s plenty footballers who are also in support for Palestine. High profile players at that.

The Right wing media of Britain have continually ridiculed us for as long as I can remember.. we've done OK. As for players, don't play for us, not that bothered.

I don't see highlighting the suffering of the Palestinian people as an extreme political view. People who want to see as that do ie the poppy loving soldier parading at sporting events British and their media

I meant in the statement they just released. I have edited the post to make that clearer.

You know what the saddest thing about this is? Israel are committing war crimes in Gaza as we speak, collectively punishing a populace that had nothing to do with Saturday’s attacks.

Ordinarily I’d happily fly the Palestinian flag in protest at that at Celtic Park.

Saturday’s juvenile display in response to equally reprehensible terrorist attacks, which they couldn’t even be arsed to condemn, has made that decision a lot more difficult for the wider Celtic support.

    Hail Hail

The dialogue seems to keep repeating itself though JC and even if there is would you trust the gb ? I would struggle to do that now.
The recent statement from the gb took the time to talk about our elitist board while saying not a single * word to condemn hamas … seriously JC I tried to take a balanced view and give the gb the benefit of the doubt initially but after doing some additional reading into all of this, it turns out hamas's full name is -HAMAS–the acronym for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya (Islamic Resistance Movement) I was ignorant of this part... so now the relevance of "resistance" in the banner becomes clearer.. so they can go * themselves.
Hopefully the dialogue is along the lines of - Hey *, yer banned.

While this may not be the thread for this, as it talks about the leader of hamas, I think its worth a read, especially the very last sentence, as it goes to the heart of why in the name of * would hamas do this... knowing the repercussions would be horrendous for the Palestinian people.

“Now there will be no truce, only retaliation.” Which is exactly, it seems, what Deif had always wanted.

This scummy * gives no more of a * for the Palestinians than we give a * about the well being of sevco. Yet we have a group wanting to show support for this */groups actions.. Its utterly * shameful mate.
And before any * jumps in with aye but Israel done this and that and look at what they are doing now - Yes Im fully aware of all of that sadly.. however I don't/won't condone/celebrate/support that either... nor ever * will, either openly or subtly and it wasn't subtle was it.

I certainly don't disagree with this, but it's important not to get into simplistic narratives about this. Hamas easily share half of the responsibility for the current Palestinian deaths too. They deliberately and conciously operate out of civilian buildings in Gaza and through their deliberate decision to murder literally hundreds of civilians, they have made it politically impossible to have a prisoner exchange. No government in the world would agree to that right now. They are every bit as disgusting and responsible for the rising Palestinian death toll as the Israeli government. Every single government in the world would be taking out Hamas right now and because of the way they operate in civilian areas, no government in the world would be able avoid some civillian deaths.

Which is not to say the hundreds that are being killed is inevitable. Israel is absolutely responsible for the predictably brutal way it is going about it. In an ideal world, I actually wish it had been handed over to the US. The US could take out Hamas with far fewer civilian deaths. But I guess in the real world that would obviously be politically impossible for both Netanyahu and the US.

It's all over the news. I doubt many will look into the history of the conflict because of a Celtic fans' banner, but you never know....

Hence why their statement should have clarified that the banner was in support of the Palestinian people, not in support of Hamas. No good can come of anyone thinking that Celtic is in support of Hamas. People can brush it off, like many in here are doing, but it can only hurt the club in the long run.

A lot of damage already done. Still baffles me the need to get involved at all. How many Palestinians are in the green brigade exactly?

I’d say that says more about the individual who would think it’s more difficult in all honesty.
