I get what your saying mate but let's be honest, they knew what they were doing with the display and would know the backlash/publicity it would get. It was out of order, regardless of anyone's political views.

I agree the club are in a lose lose situation but that's deliberately caused by the GB imo. Any chance at a 'get it up ye' towards the board.

There is no doubt at all that what is heading towards the Palestinians will be horrendous however if you want to protest about brutality you need to be consistent in condemning it and the gb have well and truly * that with their stupidity/ shortsightedness. The 25th could actually look like a display of support for hamas and that simply can not be allowed to happen JC (anymore than a show of support for the brutality the Israelis are going to unleash here should be)

It was and it shows how such a horrendous thing could have been so simply handled.

Whatever way you look at it, it's a mess. And there will always be potential for it. A support base who defends their right to air public political views, supporting a Club who have to publicly toe the line is always gonna create issues.

For those who are in love
    There's a song that's warm and tender
    For those who are oppressed
    In song you can protest
    So liberate your minds
    And give your soul expression
    Open up your hearts
I'll sing for you this song
Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
    All across this ancient land
    Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine
It was back in ancient times
The bard would tell his stories
Of the heroes, of the villain
Of the chieftains in the glen
    Through Elizabethian times
    And Cromwellian war and fury
Put our pipers to the sword
Killed our harpers and our bards
Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
    All across this ancient land
    Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine
    Ireland, land of song
    Your music lives forever
In its valleys, in its mountains
In its hills and in its glens
    Our music did survive
    Through famine and oppression
    To the generations gone
I'll sing for you this song
Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
    All across this ancient land
    Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine

You're trying too hard now mate. Just accept that the majority of people who have posted here think the banner was in poor taste and was a mistake. A mistake which they could have cleared up with their statement and didn't.....

Everyone I know is sympathetic to the Palestinian people, but there are ways of making statements and bringing attention to causes, and this wasn't it.

I thought the wording and timing of the banner was horrendous. Left me pretty sickened.

There are numerous ways to support the Palestinian cause on a political or humanitarian level that I’m proud to be involved with. Similarly, there are numerous ways to condemn Israel for their treatment of Palestine without a public show of support for the people who have just massacred so many of them.

To do so the day after one of the biggest terrorist attacks in recent history, was deplorable. Hundreds of innocent people have been murdered, and that’s not part of any ‘resistance’. In fact the acts perpetrated this weekend will likely eliminate any remote possibility of a peaceful solution for decades to come, and will ensure that hundreds/thousands of Palestinians are butchered in return.

There is a world of difference between supporting the Palestinian cause and lending some level of support to the butchery that we witnesses this weekend, and the butchery that will undoubtedly follow.

In the world we live in, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a part to play in it or the Americans. Sounds ridiculous but when you read up on the dirty tricks the Brits played in Ireland. What the Russians did to it's on people and the CIA or others in America bringing down the twin towers then something like that * having his dirty hands in it somewhere wouldn't surprise me. Him, Israel and the weapon manufacturers have alot to gain from what happened and is happening.

It'll be interesting to see how many fly the palastinian flag on the 25th. I know the lady time it was an amazing site but I'm not to sure there will be the same amount.

They have and as it stands right now they need to do it again, I think, for the 25th.
The mess has all been created by the gb themselves and we/The Club simply can’t allow them to look like they are supporting hamas because that will reflect on us all. They had a chance to clear up any doubt about the banner and chose to ignore that which says much about their views on this attack.

    Aye its a possibility..

I would hope there's dialogue before taking such a step though but there probably won't be.. there always seem to be lack of communication between the GB and the board..

I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks..

It’s funny seeing some posters appear now to have a go at the GB, but they haven’t been seen in the Palestine or Bitton thread in recent days. Some of them the same people who think it’s irrelevant what Ukraine do as Russia are the aggressors so the blame lies solely with Russia, but seem to have taken a different stance this time. Hypocrisy knows no bounds with some people though I suppose.

The fact the GB have spoke about the war crimes Israel are committing in their statement, probably means they should have condemned Hamas also, I was scrolling earlier as I was out and about and hadn’t seen them talking about the crimes Israel are committing. The banner I’ll continue to give them the benefit of the doubt as I don’t think they would celebrate civilians being killed.

Anyway, hopefully the display at the weekend has brought the Palestinians plight to the attention of more people and more give to the cause. A far more important matter than what the GB have written in a statement, you wouldn’t think it mind you.

The part of today's statement criticising the board over their hypocrisy and failure to uphold the values of the club where spot on.

Perhaps as a celtic supporters group that's were they should focus their protests on

Have to say, I thought that was a good response from the GB..
    https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/...ip/green-brigade-accuse-celtic-board-27880309

Ukraine is ok to support but Palestine isn't / good resistance versus bad resistance.. I hate the double standards

However, I do think the original banner was badly timed / worded - when the nutters were going on the rampage....man it's complicated.

Egypt has also said it warned Netanyahu 10 days before the attack and he seemed not to care...As I've said before, it's absolutely impossible that the Israeli intelligence service didn't know this was coming and didn't stop Hamas at the borders as they have so much high tech there. Even my Jewish mate in New York is highly sceptical of how Israel was 'surprised'... Loads of dirty tricks, propaganda and crimes by both sides currently going on.

The question to always ask is..who benefits?

Assuming you’re rather blatantly referring to me here….

I haven’t posted anywhere on this forum for weeks/months for reasons I won’t go into - glad you find me posting now ‘funny’.

Russia absolutely are the aggressors in the conflict with Ukraine, obviously. I would ask you to show me where I have ever suggested that I would be supportive of a group of Ukrainians massacring Russian civilians, but you would only be wasting your time and derailing yet another thread, so I won’t.

I will say that the kind of thinking that leads you to conclude that there is a element of hypocrisy in condemning the murder of hundreds of Israeli civilians (which will directly lead to the murder of thousands of more Palestinians) while actively supporting the Ukrainian military in their conflict with Russia, is partly why I stopped posting here. It’s either horribly warped, or blatantly idiotic.

Depressing as * that we actually have people directly comparing the people of Ukraine fighting a defensive war against foreign troops, with the slaughter of civilians - men, women, children, even babies - by the armed wing of a far right political party.

I remember very clearly asking you to condemn a Russian civilian being killed and you point blank refused to. Pretty sure it was the Russian journalist if you “genuinely can’t remember” as usual. As I said, hypocrisy knows no bounds with some.

Nice to see you back though mate.

Just a bit of consistency needed really. All civilian deaths are a tragedy. Just a pity all don’t agree with that.
