If this was something out of nowhere then I’d agree. The fact they have shown support for Palestine for a number of years with many displays, I’m giving the benefit of the doubt.

Even it were pre-planned though, would it not have been wise at that point to say “is this still a good idea given that we now know that many civilians have lost their lives this morning?”

Or at the very least ditched the “victory to the resistance” wording?

I understood the "resistance" to be the Hamas assault. Unless of course it was prepared previously to the mornings events.

We have a lot in our support who fall over themselves to have a go at the GB at every opportunity, so it would have been no different. The media don’t need a second opportunity either, and it’s incredibly naive to think otherwise. The GB have done silly things, the post about Rodgers when he came back being high on the list. The display on Saturday I don’t think is one they things. It won’t stop a lot of our support coming up with their own conclusion though, rightly or wrongly.

If it was pre-planned then I can see why they chose to go ahead with it in all honesty. I understand where you are coming from, but if the plan was to carry out the display in a show of support for Palestine, I don’t see why the actions of Hamas should have stopped that. Only the GB know what the banner represented.

What’s the point in displaying a message if it’s not clear?

Yes, I'm with you on the not supporting indiscriminately killing innocent people but you got to look at it through their eyes. They have no other option. They have had enough and just said * it, were going on the attack. It can be seen as senseless but sometimes you just crack and go for it and deal with whatever comes your way. It's just a * situation and now look at what's happening.

There should be peace called for from every corner of the world now. Pressure put on Israel to stop there continued slauter (although that's self explanatory) but will it happen. Will it *!

Come on Murph. Every single person knows why that message was sent by the GB. They’ve not posted a single banner for Palestine this year and they were pre planning one for the weekend, days before a horrendous attacking by Hamas? Let’s not be silly.

It was done the morning of. You can tell by the scabby way it’s done. And even if it was pre planned, which is incredibly unlikely, showing it anyway is stupid. As Colin said, remove the ‘Victory to the Resistance’, even.

The vast majority of Israelis are saying or thinking things like that right now, because they understandably feel under attack. They swim in a vast sea of propaganda, carefully curated information and skilfully twisted narrative. The pro-Israel propaganda we get on the MSM here is a periodic thing at moments like this rather than the constant medium they live in and we aren't taught the Israeli narrative from childhood like they are; and yet even so, I only have a single friend who thinks the Palestinians are the main victims and the Israeli state bears the majority of the responsibility (and he hardly counts as the whole reason we bacame friends was similar political views). Every single other person I know, including family members who I have tried to persuade otherwise, thinks both sides are as bad as each other and they both need to stop the violence.

To see through this, the Israeli people will have to go through a painful emotional process of learning that much of what they knew and valued was wrong. It's simply not realistic to think people on Twitter can bully him into doing that in the current circumstances and it also shows a certain callousness and lack of empathy, in my view anyway. Of course he's going to double down! What do you expect?

There are other problems with ascribing his distorted views to personal flaws rather than being the victim of propaganda. Firstly, you end up thinking that a majority of the people in a country with almost as many people as Scotland and Ireland combined are "not decent human beings" and deserve to be "treated with contempt".

IMO there's another problem with deciding on the basis of what Israel has done that Israeli citizens who believe their country's narrative (i.e. most of them) don't deserve to be treated with the same respect as others. One that I might go into later if you want, but I'm trying desperately to keep this post at least a little shorter than 'In Search of Lost Time' and perhaps it is obvious anyway, so I'll stop here.

There’s been plenty flying of the Palestine flag this season.

This was a well-planned and well-executed attack. Quite a few military targets were successfully taken out. I don't believe for a second it couldn't have been done entirely against military targets and to great effect. Butchering hundreds of young people at a music festival, to take just one example, makes my skin crawl. Also, Hamas did this for Hamas not the people. I don't see how deliberately murdering non-combatants can bring anything but even more horrific suffering to Palestinian civilians in Gaza over the next few weeks and maybe months. That process has already started.

This attack must seem like all his birthdays come early to someone like Netenyahu, especially given the agenda he is trying to push and the real trouble he was in. It gives him all the excuses he could want to the point where I even initially wondered if he was behind it (obviously that initial suspicion was wrong).

Yes, they deserve the benefit of the doubt for one thing. For another, how likely is it that the GB as a group (of course there will be one or two immature morons in any group) made that display to celebrate the murder of civilians. I honestly can't believe that. It's much more likely they wanted to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. We all know the Palestinian death toll here is going to be even more horrific than the Israeli one.

I agree, the wording and timing of the banner make it appear pro-Hamas. What other victory could they be talking about?

Here's where I agree with Bitton though, and it's that there's a good chance the people that made and held up that banner know very little about what's going on over there. I know a few lads that sit in the North Curve and they 100% couldn't pick out Israel on a map. They support Palestine because y'know, they're 'rebels' and it's the NI connection, but couldn't tell you the first thing about the history of the conflict.

I don't think they're brainwashed btw - I think Bitton's brainwashed - but a certain percentage of the GB are definitely brainless. You'd have to be to hold up that banner following militants murdering civilians at a music festival. It's an awful take.

You have clearly made your mind up. There has been support shown for Palestine this season for what it’s worth though. Do you think the GB would glorify the killing of innocent civilians? I personally don’t think so, so I’m prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Right now as we post, Israel is subjecting Gaza to a horrific bombardment. Probably, the deaths must be at least as high as those on the Israeli side already. It is is every bit as disgusting and the killing of civillians is not a justification for killing civillians in any morality worth the name.

Everyone knew this would happen in response. No one doubted it. And yet, the Brandenburg gate was lit up with the Israeli flag the same weekend as the GB display and western leaders have fallen over themselves to say they support Israel at this time.

Do you also assume that in expressing this support for Israel at this exact time they were cheering on hundreds (already) or thousands (possibly in the coming days) of civilian deaths in Gazza? Why assume it for the GB's display of support for the Palesinians.

The banner was clearly mean spirited and childish. “Victory to the resistance” as if it’s a * computer game and not 700 innocent people massacred. I don’t like the situation with Israel, i think it’s ridiculous that they can have their ethno state and no one else can, their treatment of Palestine is horrific but to have a group of Scottish football fans put out a “get it up you” to 700 dead is just so so classless.

I think people just fail to understand the gravity of these situations. It’s not real life to them. I must say people are guilty of the same thing with the IRA. folk with no actual connection to it beyond Celtic and maybe an Irish grandparent, who have never ever witnessed that type of violence themselves or the conditions that created it fancying themselves as real rebels shouting out slogans as if it’s supporting a football team.

I think they got their point across just fine. The phrasing and the timing is no coincidence. I won’t accuse them of antisemitism or anything because that’s a cop out, it’s stupid heartless people putting out a banner to signal how rebellious and cool they are.

The board are that out of touch they don’t even realise any political connotations of any of these songs. Right wing Tory *.

The statement is diabolical, but, I do agree with others saying the GB should have dropped the victory to the resistance part of it now. It does come off as support for Hamas. We support the freedom of the oppressed, not the slaughter of innocent woman and kids.

I’m sure there probably is some of the hardcore element that do support Hamas and see them as the same as the RA though, which I don’t agree with one bit. 2 different causes with different ideologies and goals.

Don't really agree with him in terms of the songs but there's multiple occasions where political messages are forced upon football and the club oblige and even champion them willingly.
