All that translates into for me is "I was being paid £20k a week at that point and didn't want to lose out".

His political views haven't suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Neither has this conflict or innocents dying.

"Today I spoke" aye when you're nowhere near the club and have made yer money.

He sounds * brainwashed. The conflict is incredibly complex and no sane person is going to condone killing innocent people, but he's delusional if he thinks Israel is a force for good in the world.

He calls it 1 of the worst days in his countrys history.... It's a bog standard occurance for palastinian people at the hands of Israel.

"Created 1 of the world's most influential countries in 70 years"..... Forgets to mention it was created on the back of mass genocide of palatinians.

    * brainwashed *

    This.

    He's a * prat for this.

Celtic fans and GB have been showing their support for Palestine for decades, including his entire time here. Never a peep out of him.

All of a sudden he's Ariel Sharon.

His post was also the most "brainwashed" pish I've read all week.

I think most people will trust the word of the UN, Oxfam, Save The Children, UNICEF, the red cross , amnesty international etc etc, before they trust the word of a part time zionist and apartheid denier.

Did a job for us. Got paid well.

He'd be smarter to remember that those ppl he's slamming, are putting his kids through college and paid for the massive house he kicks back in, in his apartheid regime run terrorist state.

Can't wait for the GB's response.

I think if you look at a situation like this and one of your first thoughts is to attack a post on Twitter by Nir Bitton as opposed to anyone with actual responsibility, you're doing it more to assert your identity than anything else.

They 100% have every right to do it; I'm just pretty sure it doesn't help anyone or achieve anything.

Does Bitton think the fighting only started yesterday? I must have missed him condemning the actions of his fellow countrymen over the last 50 odd years. Aww wait, he wasn’t bothering his * about Palestinians being slaughtered and having their land stolen from them. Pity he hadn’t come away with his * when he was playing here and we could have chased the Zionist *. He knew fine well how the majority of Celtic fans felt about Palestine when he played here. He was happy to keep his puss shut and pick up his wage then though.

Absolutely pro Palestine and I think the big man is directing his anger at the wrong place but there needs to be some context here. He’s literally in Tel Aviv, he’s probably scared and scared for his family’s life. He’s got young kids.

Is attacking Celtic fans the right way to go? Of course not but he’s obviously going to feel hurt when the banner yesterday is basically supporting the mass killing of civilians. It was poor from the GB. There were far better ways to show your support for the Palestinian cause without showing a banner like that. He clearly loved his time here. You lose it with the people you love before you lose it with strangers on the internet.

In saying that, he’s also always known a large portion of the fans politics for some time now. To be surprised/shocked that we display our support for Palestine seems a bit silly.

Both the GB and Nir Bitton have made an * of this.

Honestly, the GB can * ram it anaw. Utter stupidity to display that banner yesterday. Given what we know has happened.

We all support the Palestinian fight to freedom but the way they went about that yesterday wasn’t the way to fight a war. Killing civilians and kidnapping children? Come on, man.

It’s a difficult, complex situation but there needs to be some context. Just because you support Palestine doesn’t mean you support everything they do and yesterday was a dark day for both sides in the Middle East.

Breaking news: Victim of propaganda system brought up since a small child to believe propaganda, most of whose whose family and friends live within a propaganda bubble and whose national (and possibly religious and ethnic) identity is intimately intertwined with this propaganda uncritically believes said propaganda.

Leave him alone FFS and focus your outrage on the people who are actually responsible for this.

To be fair it's being discussed on here as its a celtic forum and he's an ex celtic player who is followed by thousands of celtic fans on Instagram so this was quite clearly only going to go one way.

In this new age of social media, I can see this causing alot of issues in football.

On another note about bitton, he should just keep his mouth shut! If we had seen him before calling for peace when palastine was getting slautered then maybe his comments would be valid but coming out now with it, not a * chance! He can go * with his one sided opinion!

Perhaps if someone so in the middle of the conflict was to acknowledge his own countries atrocities, I’d leave him alone. So know what mate, with the greatest of respect, get to * with that leave him alone pish. He is part of the problem. So I’ll call him out as I see fit. It’s actually embarrassing to see as many on here actually sticking up for this Zionist * and trying to justify him calling out our supporters for their views on the conflict. “Most of you don’t even know where Israel is.” Oh I think you’ll find we do Nir you condescending *. Perhaps learn a bit of history on who the real problem is in the conflict before trying to talk about how little our support know on it.

I'm pretty sure he will perceive Hamas as being responsible.

I don't expect him or Abada to be pro-Palestine. Nothing surprising in his statement.

This is wrong too. It makes it sound like there are two equal sides both equally to blame and reasonable people might take a pro-Palestine or pro-Israeli side depending on their politics. The victims here over a number of decades are overwhelmingly the Palestinians. Hamas are a horrible organisation and targeting civillians makes them war criminals too IMHO; but these kinds of people mostly only come to power in the environment of anger and despair created by Israel and its backers.

It's a good thing to take issue with his statement and to point out facts he is unaware of or ignoring. I imagine some Celtic fans are doing that and, if they are, I'm glad. I doubt he'll actually see any of the replies like that, though. Human reaction to threat being what it is, I imagine what he mostly sees is the 'holier-than-thou' brigade telling him he's a hypocrite and that everything he holds dear is morally reprehensible.
