Alistair Johnston

We need more for him in games like this, but only his 2nd European game for us..

He's way down the line of issues for us.

 

Actually thought he was fairly high up the list of issues tonight.

Don't think anyone was awful tonight so not a huge criticism but was shaky and if he didn't have Maeda in front of him he'd have struggled so much more.

 

I love him, but he doesn’t get to the byline and he can’t beat a man. Neither can Taylor.

We have no wide threat from either of them and other teams know it.

 

He's been excellent for us though and like a few it takes time to make the step up from domestic football..

Still don't think fully firing this season after his injury.. but if we could find an equivalent LB of his calibre, we would be on our way mate.

 

He was great domestically last season. Wouldn't say he's been great this season but as you say might still be recovering.

Taylor got forward tonight. So having both FBs pinned back is better in the CL . Never knew that.

 

I thought he was okish, thing that annoyed me with him was he kept coming in towards Phillips all the time and kept us too condensed.

Taylor struggled but still supported the wingers and contributed going forwards. Johnston didn't. That made it harder for those around him.

So having a similar player on the other side wouldn't be a bonus in the CL.

 

I think BR is happy with one, inverted/really attacking fullback.. Johnston doesn't seem to have the same licence to get forward as both did under Ange...

Johnston is class, a bit like Hatate hasn't hit the heights this season, but I stand by it..

Would love a LB as component as Johnston is at RB..

 

Aye he wasn't at his best tonight, I do remember they mentioned he pulled up slightly before the game started, wonder if that had anything to do with it?

 

Think he's been weak getting forward generally, improved on that a fair bit tail end of last season and showed he can do it. Needs to do it again and more for me, first domestically, but also at tonight's level. I think he can do it, but unsure whether he will.

Rodgers last time like his FBs high and wide is how I remember it so he will need to get forward at some point to play under Rodgers.

 

Tough game for him, he’s not the quickest player but I think he grew into the game more as it went on.

 

Last 3 games he's been getting poorer steadily. Making silly mistakes regularly and it's starting to annoy me. Love the * but he needs to start getting it together.

He just needs the experience I think, similar to much of the squad last season who looked a cut above in the league but struggled in Europe. Definitely not a player I’m worrying about in the CL.

 

Also was getting treatment by the main stand briefly first half as well if I'm no mistaken..
