A Lazio fan has posted this ahead of tomorrow’s game

    https://www.globalist.it/sport/2023...-siamo-fascisti-vi-racconto-la-nostra-storia/

Open letter to Celtic fans from a Lazio fan: "We are not fascists, we tell you our story"

Dear fellow Celtic fans, looking with sympathy at your history we would like you to respect ours, despite the sporting rivalry that always accompanies European matches.

Dear fellow Celtic fans, looking sympathetically at your history we would like you to respect ours too, despite the sporting rivalry that always accompanies European matches.

Our club was founded in 1900 inspired by the values of Olympic Ellas, from which it takes its colours. An Olympic ideal of brotherhood for a society that was born as a union of ‘free and equal’. Free and equal, you got that right.

Lazio subsequently, despite pressure, did not join the 1927 fascist project through which a Mussolini hierarch founded As Roma.

So Lazio exists because it refused to be swallowed up in the regime’s plans that sought to retrace – in an improvised and caricatured manner – the glories of imperial Rome.
We like to remember that it was a member of Polisportiva Lazio, Ivo Bitetti, a water-polo player, who on 27 April 1945 recognised and had Benito Mussolini arrested when he was disguised as a German trying to reach Switzerland by hiding in the middle of a column of Nazis. Ivo Bitetti was a partisan who participated in the liberation of Italy from *-fascism.

If this is established but ancient history, we like to remember that in more recent times we could all recognise ourselves in our most beloved coach in Lazio’s history, Tommaso Maestrelli, who led the team to win the first historic Scudetto.

Tommaso Maestrelli, still acclaimed even today in the Lazio anthem composed by Aldo Donati, was a valiant partisan.

Recruited into the Italian army, after the armistice of 8 September 1943 he refused to collaborate with the Nazis, ending up with other Italian soldiers in the lager of Sajmiste, near Belgrade, from which he managed to escape some time later.

Maestrelli joined the Garibaldi Brigade where he was awarded the rank of captain and, leading 300 partisans, played a leading role in the liberation of Dalmatia from the Nazis.

Lazio’s DNA has nothing to do with fascism or Nazism. History says so. And we are frankly fed up with being identified as supporters of an ideology responsible for barbarity and defeated by history. Società Sportiva Lazio has also repeatedly and firmly taken a stand against this stereotype and firmly condemned every episode of intolerance or racism.

Lazio fans in the vast majority have always recognised the values of brotherhood and sportsmanship. Lazio fans support Lazio and that’s all. Right, left, centre do not exist. There is only Lazio and its glorious history made up of difficult moments, dramas and great successes. United all in our jersey. Which is biancoceleste.

Therefore, wishing for a different outcome to the match that will see us together as protagonists from the one you hope for, I believe it would be fairer and more beautiful to do it together, civilly and sportingly, in the name of the ideals of respect that unite us and not of what is attributed to a fanbase that sees no reason for this misrepresentation.

A quick Internet scan shows plenty of fascist/right wing incidents of note.

Celtic vs Lazio predictions: Bhoys can record statement win

    - Lazio have won just one of their last eight Champions League matches
    - Celtic won 17 of their 19 home league games last term

Celtic and Lazio were both tested in their Champions League openers last month and will be hoping for better when they lock horns at Celtic Park.

While the Bhoys suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Feyenoord, Lazio rescued a 1-1 draw from their home tie with Atletico Madrid thanks to a 95th-minute header from goalkeeper Ivan Provedel.

But Celtic have been excelling domestically and will feel hopeful about recording maximum points against the out-of-form visitors.

    Team News

    - The hosts will be without Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Holm after both players were sent off in their Champions League opener with Feyenoord. Nat Phillips could be in line to start.

    - Lazio should have a fully fit side to pick from heading to Glasgow with defender Alessio Romagnoli having recovered from a nose fracture.

    The Stats

Celtic can be a tough nut to crack at Celtic Park, having taken 53 points from a possible 57 at home in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Lazio go into this contest in poor form, having won just one of their last five games across all competitions, scoring more than once in only one of those contests.

The Serie A club have also struggled in their recent Champions League outings, winning just one of their last eight games in the competition.

    Prediction

A European night in Glasgow often brings out the best in Celtic and that could be the case when they welcome Lazio to Celtic Park on Wednesday. The defeat to Feyenoord was not an ideal way to start this season's Champions League but Celtic were reduced to nine men by the 68th minute in that match and know their best chance of points will come in their home games.

Domestically the Bhoys have been flying, posting wins in each of their last four Scottish Premiership matches and that run began with a 1-0 win over Old Firm rivals Rangers. Knowing how open this group could become, Celtic are sure to have a buoyant crowd behind them and that is bad news for struggling Lazio.

Last month's 2-0 win at home to Torino was Lazio's only win in their last five games and they have lost four of their first seven assignments in Serie A this term. They look like a shadow of the team that secured second spot in the league under Maurizio Sarri last season and they should be opposed in Scotland.

Celtic are worth selecting in the draw-no-bet market, whereby stakes are returned if the match finishes all square.

Whenever someone makes a point of saying “right, left or centre does not exist” you can be assured that’s because they are intolerant hate-filled right wing *.

Exactly. Folk need to calm down man, falling over themselves to be the most offended.

I'm taking baby genius tomorrow, his first champ league game, he's buzzing like *. If he wants a scarf, who am I to say no. :fear:

On the basis of our struggles with creativity (we depend on O'Riley so much right now), and Lazio's poor form, I could see a goalless draw. And I would take that with little complaint, as it would give confidence to our defense.

Lazio fans are hoping to get a point here, as well. Yes, we want to beat them, but their staff will know that blocking Kyogo and O'Riley is all that's needed. Unlike last year, we have no goalscoring wingers.

The scarf thing is just respect between clubs, nothing to do with any * ideology within their fan base. No one has to buy them, but it would be pretty embarrassing to do half and half scarves for the other 2 clubs and not Lazio. Doesn't work like that.

    * sake, was not expecting this. I was all for bringing him back early last time, yeah it didn't cause a recurring injury it he did pick up a different one.

Doesn't mean if he plays tomorrow he'd be an injury risk necessarily but it would still be in the back of my head.

On the other hand, we need a win to have a decent chance of doing something in Europe, and he would be massive if he can play.

    Completely torn on this one.

My thoughts are we are completely fine domestically right now without him. In Europe we really need him. I'd play him.
