He doesn’t but up until the penalty, I think he was doing very well and is something to work on now to bed him in. Think he was brought in to have that role and is now the senior CB, with a big fee. Scales has overtaken that role through sheer force of personality which is brilliant from Scales, but theres decent foundations to build on with him I think.

Also watched it back tonight for my sins, the full game, watched the replay for the penalty more. Harsh as *.

VAR failed there I think, because the attacker reaches out and grabs him before he reaches over and catches his face. Two exact same ways to strain to get by somebody you’re level with to get the ball, one was boaby height one was caught on the nose.

Both are technically fouls. Both are things you see at least 10/15 times a game that you think ack thats just football, don’t get bogged down on stuff technically not allowed.

VAR’s all about that though, should have been flagged for him using his arms stretched out to impede Lagerbielke before Lagerbielke done the same. In a worse fashion I’ll concede.

Was harsh as * on him.

Maeda’s penalty shout in ma green specs is far more blatant.

If CCV and him were the only fit ones there’d be no pressure. Kobayashi’s first 2/3 games next to CCV he looked a player man.

The CB situation the now seems to have made a lot of us forget what we looked like there without CCV last year regardless of who played. Jenz I still thinks a * player, done well enough at a horrendous Schalke team to earn a move to Wolfsburg, never played next to CCV for us, and done good individually but without that presence at the back, we are monumentally worse. Anybody coming in without him at the back, we’ll always be so shaky in comparison. Even if they’re quite solid, they’ll not be as solid.

Nawrocki is the only one we’ve seen play next to him so far. Nawrocki looked * hot I think. He had a presence next to him that takes a lot of pressure away.

The two guys I’ve seen play well without him, including Starfelt here as well, are Scales and Welsh. Weslh I like but don’t think he’d compliment a partnership with CCV they’re similar styles (not quality btw) but if Scales keeps up what he’s doing just now, his style compliments it perfectly, and a left and right footed comfortable on the ball partnership as well, brings a balance.

If he keeps this up till CCV is back, it’s the two of them, and Scales jobs only going to get a lot easier if he’s the choice when he returns. Can’t understate the difference Cameron makes for us at the back, both for whoever’s next to him and the team as a whole. The midfield is more confident on the ball and everything knowing he’s there if it goes wrong. Invaluable.

    Was decent..

Does make me nervous though. That one second half particularly in the box and first half where he got beat by Nouble and they were in for that Hart save..

He goes route one aimlessly too often for me as well..

Does have good qualities and potential..

I like him, once we're more settled I think he'll smash it.

Really hope he continues progressing and ends up shining here. I was buzzing when he signed.

Being in the team at a time of adversity will do him loads of good as well.

Had a good game. Edging closer to Scales level but still a distance to go.

His best game for us today, against a difficult front line and shocking pitch.

Pitch is a disgrace. Took this today. Seen better at the local 5-a-sides

Could see the state of it as well late in the game when Taylor went down (weakly) from a tap to the neck, camera was zoomed in on him and the pitch was an utter disgrace. Not too sure how a plastic pitch could look so unkept and I'm desperate need of a grass cutting, but that's plastic pitches in Scotland for ya.

Was probably his worst game for us, kept giving the ball away.

Wouldn't shock me if Phillips starts against Kilmarnock, as I said in an earlier post I like the boy, but he has a lot to learn.

He’s a slight concern for me. Hopefully he improves as he settles.

Distribution wasn't great but don't think he did anything too bad defensively. Was winning most of his duels.

Not strong, not quick, not good in the air.. meant to be an excellent passer, distribution is hit or miss..

Looks miles off it for me.. Still early tho..

His distribution is pretty awful tbh. The one where it was an easy option out right and he put it out the park was honking. Like Yang though, he's a young guy and hopefully we can develop him.

In his reels and write ups it looked outstanding with some range, either foot as well..

    * knows what's going on..
