    Meanwhile there was positive news on key defender Cameron Carter-Vickers who has also missed the curtain raisers in the league.



    Carter-Vickers is a little bit away, probably early October before he's back but he's out on the grass and working well

    Rodgers also revealed Cameron Carter-Vickers is still aiming for an October return to action for Celtic.

    The defender has been out with a hamstring issue since the win over Aberdeen in August and won't return before next month.

    Rodgers confirmed: "It’s early October. He’s still a wee bit away."

    Don't see point in rushing him back again for him to break down again.

    He's due back early October. Lazio game will be too soon having barely played since April, and if we can't beat Kilmarnock at home without him then we are in trouble.

    International break after killie game on the 7th, give him the extra 2 weeks and bring him back after the break.

    Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Cameron Carter-Vickers will soon re-join first-team training at Celtic.

    However, the United States international is still some way off from making a return to the starting XI.

    The defender has been out injured since Celtic's 3-1 win over Aberdeen in the early weeks of the season.

    The 25-year-old was ruled out for up to two months in a bitter early-season blow for the champions.

    Rodgers insists the ex-Tottenham player is making good strides in his recovery, but he won't be back on the field until after the international break at the earliest.

    He said: "Well we've got Cam who's coming back in to re-join the training group, but he's not going to be ready until after the international break I would suspect

    That was the picture 2 months ago when he was returning to fitness.

    Don't see that myself as think we'll have to be careful of him. Think we will have to be more careful this time. If not, we've learnt * all.
