Thought he got it tactically correct.

They didn't have a sniff before the first sending off and got a goal that was completely avoidable.

Honestly, despite often thinking I suck at life, I think I'd do okay as a manager using cold, hard logic and empirical reasoning.

We played Shakhtar off the park away from home. We didn’t take our chances and it cost us badly. Which was a problem throughout. The experience that both Ange and the players got last season would have more than likely meant that we would have improved this season. That Feyenoord team are not great by any means. Neither were Shakhtar last year admittedly. I seen a lot more from us last season in the opening game against Shakhtar than I did last night however. All hypothetical of course, but I think we definitely get something out the game last night had we continued on from last season.

I'd be *. I employ football manager with 10 striker tactics and reload the game until I win. :56:

    Nothing wrong with the question.

I'd say on the basis that we'd have been better run over the transfer window so would have had a stronger more settled squad and side. There would have been no getting up to speed or figuring out tactics/positions, which has slowed us down and unsettled us and also removed the need for established players to adapt and instead let them focus on their roles.

One of our big failings last night was not bringing our talisman striker into the game and his style would have made that happen. I also think whilst he has a style of play he also learns so there would have been some adaption from previous seasons.

All hypotheticals as I said, but with a better transfer window and therefore a better squad, more confident team, that understood their role and position better and actually got the ball forward confidently into dangerous areas that Feyenoord team would have been beat.

This was not on Rodgers. Only the board to blame, combined with some classic bad luck.

As much as I dislike Rodgers, I agree with this above. Definitely not on him. It was just a case of bad luck and player error for me. Positives to take from thst match last night.

Yep. I wanted us to come away with a respectable scoreline, and 2-0 is not to bad considering we were down to 9 men. There are many positives from this game, and i am condifent we beat them at home. I think we will beat Lazio as well.

I won't criticize him for playing Hatate. He had little choice but to play Lagerbielke. His first 2 subs were reasonable and timely. I didn't watch any more after the pen was given.

But I will criticize him for insisting that the defense play out of the back. Too slow, too risky and doesn't fit what defenders we have available, or what forwards we have up front. Most of Feyenoord's chances first half came from misplaced passes out of the back line.

To be fair, I think we get something from last night if the ref does his job properly. At 10 men it's essentially over, but we were competing beforehand.

Of course, as you say, it's all hypothetical, but I don't really buy into the fact Ange would have got us something there, his weakness was Europe. 2 points last year was terrible and nowhere near good enough.

I don't disagree with this sentiment overall, but our transfers have been pretty garbage over the last 18 months, so whilst I think it'd be better if Ange was still in charge, its still an issue that's moreso on the board than the management.

Johnston has hit the ground running. Guys like Haksabanovic, Abildgaard, Iwata, Kobayashi, Siegrist and Bernabei were/are all miles off it, and the rest are all project signings bar Phillips, who we can't really judge yet.

For those criticising the passing around the back, it's exactly that kind of control that was frustrating Feyenoord last night. It's the kind of patient, measured Rodgers build up that works in these games (domestic is another matter). Stupid errors aside, we looked very comfortable last night without being brilliant, and until that ridiculous free kick were probably shading it.

On the question of Ange, his style would have played into Feyenoord's hands last night. Leaving ourselves open would have been the worst thing to do.

For what it's worth, watching a bit of Spurs this season it seems like Ange has learnt his lesson a wee bit. They don't go gung-ho like we did against top sides, and you see a lot more of that passing around the back inviting the press. They also don't do the immediate restart thing we used to do, which was brilliant domestically but * us in Europe a fair bit. Just wish he had adapted like that while he was here.

Looking at feyenoords last few results alot where thinking we were going to get mauled. With everything in perspective getting best 2-0 with us having 9 Men wasn't a bad result. This group will be wide open for next few games aslong as we get a result against Lazio.

I'l watch it back when someone uploads it; but in my memory, many of our best chances came from that. Beacuse they often did try to press and they weren't amazing at it.

Strawman argument about Guardiola and conjecture about it coming back at us if played long. And lets be honest here,it was coming straight back at us anyway with what we were attempting, we spent large parts of that 1st half penned in our own third, it was only a matter of time before they scored.

Also, there are other ways of approaching a game besides what we were doing last night and punting long to a physical striker, which btw we had on the bench.

All that aside, he did get it wrong last night. The defenders we have available are not capable of playing out against a better standard of opposition, compounded by the fact our midfield is way too static and has been in every game so far.Our apprehensive approach achieved nothing but inviting them on to us. We timidly lost that game to what is arguably the weakest pot 1 side we have ever been drawn against. That is all on him.

I think the first goal kills us to be honest. They looked like scoring again even prior to the red card. We hadn’t came out second half at all. Again, this backs up the argument that we needed to be bringing in a keeper in the summer. A lot, myself included said it could cost us when it comes to CL. It proved so last night. We simply cannot be conceding goals like that free kick. I was wanting the boy to hit it to be honest. It’s awful from Hart. Starting position was poor, but it wasn’t hit with any great power so if he had moved his feet quicker he still would have saved it comfortably.

I don't actually recall many chances in all honesty. Can only think of the 2 fairly weak long shots from hatate and maeda and both of those came from us overturning possession in midfield.
