Sure. We don't know, and it's hypothetical but that's true of pretty much all conversations on here.

Anyway the more I think about it the more I think Ange would have got us a win tonight. That team was for the taking.

    Such a bizzare window..

Came back to a bit of fanfare due to Ange leaving and him being a big name still and no much of a downgrade, if any to most..

Sold our best player and lost some other crucial players at the spine of the team and with us being cash rich you were expecting some big hitting signings or some real ones of purpose..

Just didn't happen. Infact he's been badly letdown and it doesn't make sense why..

Why after he walked away last time would we no back him fully when we had glaring holes in the side that needed filling and had all this money to spend?

It makes no sense to me. Utterly mind-boggling window..

Since the start of the season we have been static, laboured, ponderous, disjointed and pretty uninspired all over the pitch. Tonight was much the same. Can't help but feel much of this is down to him, given how the last 18 months of his previous spell was.

I think it comes down to negligence on our part.

We likely thought that GK and LB were fine and didn't need additions when Ange was here. We didn't hear about interest in a LB until mid August, and we only had 2 semi-solid links to a GK throughout the entire window.

I think our first 2 choice LW'S fell through as well. I distinctly remember The Republican stating we were having issues with the LW we scouted near the end of July, then obviously the Podence links came about mid-August, no doubt in my mind Palma was second choice, but maybe even third.

I don't think the club had ST or CM as a target at all, I'm certain they're the 2 positions Rodgers himself asked for, and it's lucky we obviously still have connections to Benfica, otherwise we'd have sorted 0 priority positions this window.

Immediately after the window closed, Rodgers said we'd be making a few signings in January, you don't say that if you've had a successful window.

I'll give the board a small benefit of the doubt, I don't think they were shafting Rodgers or trying to hoard money, I just think they're utterly incompetent.

I think part of it is he probably didn't know much about us.

At the end of last season most fans would have said if we need 3 players it would be a goalkeeper, left-back and defensive midfielder to come into this season for Europe and upgrade us and we never really signed any, except Kwon but he doesn't even get on the bench.

Most people wouldn't have had Abada in the team but Rodgers seemed to like and want to use him, left-back he maybe seen Bernabei in training and pre-season and thought he's fast with a bit of skill and Taylor had a good season last season but Taylor really just played well in the Ange system which dominated the ball high up the park and let guys off the hook to get forward and link play.

Playing Maeda on the right never really works well but hes done it a few times. Turnbull also i'd play only as a 10 with two others deeper but he just plays him in the same deeper wider 4-3-3 type midfield area where is lack of mobility hampers him from getting forward and back and he doesn't play well.

I feel like Rodgers barely watched us and probably knew very little about any of our players where as you'd have expected him as a "fan" to know as much as anyone and know what he'd do before he took on the job.

It's like Rodgers is just working everyone out, even the new signings like Yang, Palma, Holm and guys like that he probably doesn't really know much about them what positions suit them, what they can really do. So the guys already here and the new guys he's just really finding out about them.

I agree, they were decidedly ordinary for this level. Our approach was so apprehensive and lacking any real purpose.

A bit more ambition both on the pitch and in the dugout and we could have got something from that game.

Don't mean to be a * mate, but on what basis?

I loved Ange, and I do miss him, but he failed to beat a very average side in Shaktar Doneskt over 2 games, and Shaktar missed an absolute sitter at Parkhead to win it at 1-1. He also royally * it against Bodo Glimnt.

No real evidence Ange would have made a difference tonight, he was excellent at a lot of things, but Europe was not one of them.

Feyenoord are a better side than the Shaktar team we played last year.

Ange couldnt beat them with a better team than Rodgers has so I'm struggling to see how he would of got a better result 2nyt

    I'll agree to disagree.

In the same scenario with the same players, I don't see it. I think the way we set uo tonight is how we should be every time, certainly away from home in Europe.

    Anything else is naive.

And the way we continually try to play out from the back in the manner we do when we clearly don't have the players to do so isn't naive?

Wether that be under the previous or current manager?

Also naive but what else would you suggest? A long punt to Kyogo? It didn't really cost us tonight. Other parts of our game did.

I don't think we are doing it anywhere near as much as under ange either.

We were clearly inviting pressure tonight with the current defenders inability on the ball and the lack of movement in front of them.

To be honest I don't know what to suggest, like everyone else on here I'm not qualified enough to give a definitive answer on that.

I do think a coach that is supposed to be elite level should be able to identify when something isnt working and come up with other suggestions themselves. That applies to both current and previous managers.

With how slow and seemingly pointless some of our passes were at the back, I figured we were baiting the press deliberately, though. Some pretty good teams do that (most famously Brighton). We got some half chances out of it in the first half anyway.

From every goalkeeper possession tonight we played it to a cb, it then went back to the keeper either immediately or via a pass to the other cb. This allowed them to get reorganised, it then allowed them to get further up the field with every other trepid pass between 2 of the back 4 and keeper until.we were playing the ball within our own 6 yard line.

The players we had on the pitch clearly didn't have the ability to play through a press never mind bait it. That was obvious early in the 1st half, a supposed elite level manager should be able to identify this and make in game changes to suit.

Extremely underwhelming since his return. Not 100% his fault under the circumstances but still not alot to be excited about to date.

Hes getting nowhere under this board so I'm still asking myself the question, why the * did he bother coming back?

We've got midgets as strikers and midfielders. Having 4 central defenders injured sort of leaves us in a hard place for playing it out. Coupled with midgets the long ball out would just come back at us straight away. Even pep gardiola would struggle with that. Rodgers done nothing wrong.

He did. Long passes into space were always viable. Instead, he keeps us trying to pass along the ground. Managers must be adaptable.

He's a fantastic coach but can't we stop with this elite level manager patter? There's a handful of those about and he isn't one of them.

The clue is in the name elite - his only elite club was Liverpool ten year ago and he won nothing with them.
