The assist to Kyogo reminded me of Xavi to Messi in the 2009 CL final against Man Utd.

    Lol..

Playing him as a number 6 is effectively giving any opposition team the run of the midfield.

He's a massive issue in Europe. I said it.

I've said it a million times he is simply not a holding mid he plays his best stuff going forward. If we could sign an actual CDM and have Mcgregor and O'Riley/Hatate in front of him it would help us massively.

The lack of physicality in the side hampers us massively in Europe and it's not like it's a new thing asking Mcgregor to play that role in Europe will never work

He's lost something. A yard of pace, yes; but also his touch is less secure now too. I'm starting to feel like I've seen this movie before with Broony and Lustig.

Playing him as the CDM in Europe is admitting defeat. Shambles.

He's been at the heart of some of our worst performances in Europe.

    Erratic, ponderous, weak.

Looking really jaded too often this season.

If Iwata isn't a long term contender to share his position then need to be looking at how we bring in someone who can January.

Think folk are going overboard here. Hatate was a much bigger problem tonight.

He gets away with murder in Europe. McGregor is NOT a defensive midfielder. WHY is he playing as one?

Loses more tackled than he wins, gets dribbled by and out muscled far too often, doesn't really do much on the ball either.

It's a disgrace that this is being allowed to happen continuously.

Ridiculously so. He’s not the issue, in fact he’s nowhere close to being the issue.

He really is an issue if he's meant to be our defensive lynch pin. He isn't good enough in that role in Europe. You're turning a blind eye to it.

Doesn’t mean McGregor wasn’t a massive problem though.

He was a joke in the lead up to their penalty.

When we're relying on a player who has never shown he can consistently perform as a 6 at this level.. why are we continuing with him in that position.

And a problem is there’s some who simply cannot criticise the guy. * baffling.

He’s not the only issue but he’s playing a huge role in an area of the park when we are regularly weak and overrun in Europe.

He isn’t and never will be our defensive lynchpin because we don’t play with one.

That isn’t his fault if we should be, which is another argument.

Funny how folk see it differently, I definitely didn't have him down as one of our worse performers, thought he was fine until the red cards.

He’s been our most consistent and important player over literally several years, remove the hipster number and ‘pivot/double pivot’ pish away from the argument which folk love to get bogged down in - we need better around him not debating whether he’s good enough. A complete nonsense discussion.

Not just tonight though. Just think going into CL games with him as our CDM is crazy.

    Hipster number.. :giggle1:

I mean dismissing what is abundantly evident by every European side playing through our midfield with ease..
